Hard News: When the fast track seems a…, in reply to
And almost on a par with Engineers, an attitude that would be good to see in this country.

Thanks for the review Russell. I was thinking of tying myself up to a year-long Sky subscription to get live coverage but now I think the pictures will be better on the radio.

the daunting 1km climb northbound to Hillsborough Road on the SH20 cycleway is a showstopper for commuters and weekend cyclists alike
I've only ever been down that part of the cycleway and take a different route on the way back. The rest of the track is great but that part is way too steep for your average cyclist. Hopefully someone will come up with an alternative route or a zigzag bridge to help flatten it out a bit.

Mmmm, is there no pleasing bike riders ??( Unlike motorists they are paying zilch for their new cycleways)
The idea that it's the poor motorists who pay for everything is a face-slappable myth. Rates pay for urban roads, footpaths and cycleways. Fuel taxes don't cover the full cost of national roads either, the Government has sold off the power companies to help pay for the proposed holiday highways. Motorists don't pay for the environmental damage caused by vehicle exhaust, spilled oil, rubber and brake pads or the eventual disposal of their car. The environmental, health and community benefits of cycling are huge. It still floors me that motorists fume about "free loading cyclists" while not comprehending that for every cyclist they see, there is one less car in the queue in front of them.

It's brilliant that the cycleway is actually being built and that NZTA has kept the existing paths open as much as possible.
The sudden stop at Lincoln Road is a bit of a shock, hopefully some cycle friendly ways through this intersection will be coming soon. As it is now, I still turn off to Central Park Drive and go through the lights to Triangle Road.
Great pic's, thanks. -
I wonder how many more pokies they will be given to make up the current estimated deficit and how many more once it's built and the true cost is known?

Dita de Boni always worth reading;

"Tucker claims he did not know who Slater – Whale Oil – was. Which is incredible in itself for the country’s chief spy, but compounded by the fact he didn’t apparently bother to find out before releasing briefing material, the type of which had never been publicly released before to anyone, even accredited journalists. Perhaps it was Slater’s cheeky smile and gentle wit that won him over."
Ah that cheeky smile and gentle wit. I’d roflnui if someone was actually being held accountable for this, but currently they’re not.

Yup. But it’s just a flesh wound to Key.

I voted Labour this time, but only reluctantly. I felt their Vote Positive campaign was abysmal.
They needed to stand on their record of good government and attack National on how they gave a tax cut to the rich then sold off state assets and borrowed $60 billion to pay for it. Why not campaign on the national debt soaring to something like $18k for every man woman and child and yet National is talking of tax cuts as soon as they get into surplus, never mind paying back what they've borrowed. National should be painted as the party that squanders our rainy day money in the bullshit belief that the free market fairy will make it all right in the end.
I'm angry about what National has done and where they are leading the country but Labour never got angry on my behalf and that is why they are losing my support. -
My feeling about Labour was there were no real strong attacks on National's policies. They needed to spout some one-line quotes that would be picked up by Paddy Gowers. Something like: "Our debt has increased by $16,000 per man, woman and child since they gave the rich a tax cut." Make the fact wrong so that when the right try to correct it, it still comes out as a freaking huge number. Labour has got to be seen as the reasonable and fair economic managers they are and paint National as the tax-cut and borrow party before they will get any traction. Vote Positive just didn't cut it.
