The Melbourne Cricket Ground has statues outside the stadium and I think it works well. They're an appropriate size (not 5m!!) and also make sense at that venue.
I know it doesn't do to be like Australia, but in this case, works for me..

Just fyi, Miramar...

Um - there was 12 hours live streaming on Sky/Prime's website every day (never did work out who was hosting it..) I watched some ice skating and aerials that way...

That's... kinda depressing. Really well written! But sad :(

Ok that made me giggle. Very cleverly tying in a few threads there - and a nicely placed reminder that Aucklanders are people too ;)

In relation to the 9 day working week or some other reduction in hours thing - can they guarantee that workers won't be expected to still do the same amount of work in less time? Not everyone is the stereotypical slacker, and there will be some who simply can't bear to do a bad job - which might be the case if they only have 90% of the time needed to do a job 100%.. I would be worried about people working extra hours on the 9 days in order to not be at work on the 10th.

It's not Twitter, but bowler Iain O'Brien (recently but not currently in the Black Caps) has a blog on Cricinfo - it's quite good:
http://blogs.cricinfo.com/iainobrien/
He manages to get a bit of personality across and provides good insight into what goes on around a cricket game.
There are a variety of other blogs on CricInfo as well :)

They might have been twittering - it's the Done Thing to make sure the world can know exactly what you're doing and when you're doing it...
Interestingly, I think it's 'accepted' to twitter at a concert, but I can't imagine sending tweets which watching a movie (unless it was atrociously bad)

My favourite thing on that stretch of road is an old abandoned barn on the left as you're driving north, just south of Ashburton I think. One day I'll get around to stopping and taking photos...
I've never lived in South Canterbury by my parents moved back to Timaru (Mum grew up there) almost 15 years ago (I think! getting old...) and we used to drive back and forth when I was a kid living up North.
We used to stop in Temuka for ice cream on the way to the Rangitata Huts. Mmm goody-goody-gumdrops..
