This is certainly one of those times when your moderator comes in to remind people that it's healthy to attack an argument with which you strongly disagree, not so to personally attack the person making it.
Argh, yes. I had gone through a convoluted reasoning in my head (could y'all not read my mind???) that ended up at 'I have no problem with people calling racism when the racism is evident'. Perhaps that didn't come through so well when I condensed it into the word 'no'.
Or perhaps I find it difficult to reparate rascism from racists.
My apologies, Philip and Russell, you are quite right.

an opinion that differs
Opinions yes. Race-based crap, no. Did you really need to ask?

Stephen - I think it's perfectly appropriate. It follows naturally from the question Graham asked.
I personally don't have the energy to get into a discussion about it today, so I haven't. But I don't think you should be concerned.

Those rich banking families need to talk to their chip manufacturer. I'm pretty sure the implants weren't meant to make us all pissed off at the banks' behaviour & the subsequent global recession thingy.
They probably have a remedy in contract, given the extent of the malfunctions, and possibly one in tort for damage to reputation.

And make sure the national cycle way is dotted with plenty of windmills and dykes.
Dykes... on bikes? Please? I've been good all year...

Agree with Michael. Maybe if we added sequins..?
I'd love to see something unique and as beautiful as the Taj Mahal that responds to its environment, i.e. the site, the Indian community in NZ, etc.
Robyn tells me the one in four stat is wrong, but it may depend on what's being measured. If molestation, physically-forced rape is being assessed the figure might be lower. If the parameters include not feeling able to say no then, based on anecdotal evidence from friends, one in four might be correct.

For once, I want what Dubai's got. I think something similarly imaginative would be an adequate replacement for the existing...icon...
Millau is a bit stiff for the harbour in my opinion, but I like it where it is. Something that responds to its setting would be ideal.

Geoff, what I'm saying is that, as with most first-glance things, there are underlying issues, resolution of which would make this one fairly moot.
Access to broadband is one. When we do better in providing it - it's a necessity for us all, in my view - then most issues around TV programming are likely to go away.
Another one is evidently quality of life for our old people. Be grateful if we could sort that before I become one.
But I still don't care if daytime soaps get the arse. And I'm prepared to wear the label of ungenerous on that one.

So, bugger the old folks in rest homes, the unemployed, shift workers etc?
Is Days of Our Lives really the best we can do for them? Really? Cos if that's what I've got to look forward to as an oldie then just take me to the vet & have me put down. Thanks.
Speaking from personal experience, including unemployment & shift work, I only ever met one person who watched this stuff. And she worked in a corporate environment.
Proper access to broadband would sort this, surely.
(Still, if the ratings research isn't up to scratch then that's not good enough).

I'm with Gio on this.
If the soaps were an important cultural touchstone for a vulnerable section of the community and unavailable through any other reasonable means I'd have a bit of sympathy. But for Days of Our Lives I'm firmly in the user pays camp.
In fact, I'm not averse to a tax on daytime-soap watching.
