Speaker: An Open Letter To David Cunliffe, in reply to
Assuming that the percentage of the electoral roll that voted corresponds to real differences in the electorates, it would appear that Labour wins three distinct types of electorates.

Saw this article on Stuff, and thought of you, Chelle. Hope things are progressing well for you.

Speaker: Compulsory voting and election turnout, in reply to
Ah yes, that makes it much trickier. I guess
Person authorised to administer an oath for the purpose of a judicial proceeding in the country in which the declaration is made.
would be your only hope. In New Zealand, I think desk sergeants at Police Stations fit this description.

Speaker: Compulsory voting and election turnout, in reply to
My wife had suddenly had to go up north for her Grandfather’s death, I had fuck all money, no business colleague, no other member of my household. So couldn’t vote.
Justice of the Peace is on the list. There are a couple in every suburb, all listed in the phone book, all only too happy to help.

I guess that's the danger of argument-by-absurdity. You may be taken literally - some people really do have absurd arguments at times.

OnPoint: Sunlight Resistance, in reply to
Maybe a rephrasing: Media isn’t (necessarily) responsible for the failure, but they are responsible for making it work again, because it’s their raison d’etre.
I think that you are wrong about this, but only insofar as it is no longer media's reason for existence. Media is a business providing a return to its shareholders. The media is no longer part of the fourth estate, but are part of the entertainment industry.

The Farrar angle is there now, under the heading 'Dirty Politics'.
Interesting that the heading includes single quote marks. Is that because it is quoting somebody (ie it is in speech marks), or is this a use of scare quotes.

In that case, anything a person decides to do or not, is an act of bravery in the face of uncertainty.
I think the degree of braveness is in the irreversibility of the option. Inaction is the easier option, so actively instigating an irreversible option is definitely brave.
I fervently hope it improves your life.

Interestingly, the first 10 comments were all totally against the Herald &/or the National Party. I normally don't read the comments (to avoid dismay at humanity), but all of these commentators were polite and made sensible statements. Is that a first ?

Hard News: Vision and dumbassery, in reply to
Tread on people like this instead of including them and they’ll do more than just disagree with you. They’ll start to hate you. National’s making sure that everything National is actually about John Key. And people who somehow haven’t been affected can’t understand why others “hate John Key” so much.
Well put. Extremely well put.
