  • Hard News: Food Show 08,

Anyone had a cup of Civet coffee that goes for 50 pounds a cup in London?
When visiting Simon in Bali we have Kopi Bubuk which you just add to a cup with hot water and stir, simplistic, tasty and addictive!

  • Hard News: Not actually satire,

Between 1972 and 1975, Labour lifted the minimum wage from 44% of the average wage to 60%. But under National it was reduced right down to 30% of the average wage by 1984. From 1984 to 1990, Labour lifted the ratio back up to 54% by the late 1980s but it was 47% by 1990. By 1999, under National the ratio had slipped back again – to 40.2% of the average wage. The minimum wage was frozen in 1991, 1992, 1993 and 1994 and increased by only 2% in 1995 and 1996. Under Labour-led Governments since 1999 it has built up to 50.8% of the average wage.

However, this ratio is well short of the 66 per cent recommended in 1973 after the Royal Commission into Social Security and even further behind the ratio of 83 per cent when the minimum wage was first introduced in 1946.

  • Hard News: Wild is the Weekend,

Paul and I and others from our little rugby mailing list will be attending the return match together this weekend at Eden Park. It had better be a bloody improvement.

How much does one pay to go to a game at Eden Park? Suncorp test match Sept 13th is $85 for the cheap seats.

  • Hard News: Wild is the Weekend,

I guess the left have a hard time using the word individual and the right groups!
It's sad to see good selection candidates passed over sometimes for the good of toeing the party line.

Craig good to see you do your homework, yes I used to worked for the EPMU. Never been a fan of far left off the wall politics.

You are right I have witnessed awful fights and I am sure there have been much debates on the right with selections by individuals and groups.

  • Hard News: Wild is the Weekend,

All you have to do is fill a hall full of individuals that belong to a group i.e Union members or religious leaning groups etc, presto you have a good chance of being selected, so as far as I am concerned groups do have a part to play in selections.

  • Hard News: Wild is the Weekend,

Under Sanzar rules, three yellow cards in one season of super14 and Tri-Nations leads to a tribunal hearing and a possible further suspension.

Brad Thorn got one in the super 14 final and one the other night,he is going to have to be real careful for the rest of the series.Judging by the second game against South Africa and the statistics from Nelson we could be in deep s**t if he is suspended.

  • Hard News: Wild is the Weekend,

I wonder if the overseas selection rule needs to be debated by the NZ rugby board. If there is a rule change then how do you get the UK/French clubs to release them when clearly the IRB is about as weak as the UN.
