Ruby and I went to Waiatarua this afternoon, which is a very special wetlands/dog park behind the Remuera golf course. We did the obligatory playing, of course. But much more exciting was the Blue Heron, Which I couldn't get too near, so this is a bit of a long shot.

On a somewhat sweeter note, I had my first swim of the summer at Cheltenham Beach today - it seemed that everyone in Auckland was at some beach or other today. I enjoyed it immensely - being with friends, picnicking under a huge old Pohutukawa, but the best thing of all was this. This is my special friend Pete who belongs to my friend Rebecca. He held my hand all through lunch, of his own volition. I was touched beyond words. Having said that, he is a very charming three year old. "Welcome to my home!" he once magnanimously said to me, when I arrived at theirs. Bless his little heart.

Yesterday for the 3rd day in a row – we had a large canine houseguest, and exhausted dogs is the only way to stay sane – we went to Kakamatua for the third day in a row. Blinder of a day, very hot and sunny, and consequently the light was completely different.
1) Where’s Digger?
2) Crimson
3) Black dogs and ears -

Although I do have a funny story. Ruby and her friend Digger went to explore some bush on the other side of the stream. I called them and Digger came racing back, swam across and there he was. Ruby, however, was a little more reluctant to leap bravely off the tiny little cliff, and so I had to go across, get her down, and wade back over. Ah,the things we do. One man suggested I walk away and leave her, and see if that would help. I wasn't convinced.

And this morning, we were back out at Kakamatua. Such a lovely place.
