Snap! We were in Chch this weekend too, and that David Crooks exhibition is bloody brilliant. Very psychedelic, and also hard to describe. I recommend it.
There was a duck with a dozen ducklings swimming in the pond in the Bot Gardends with the kinetic water sculpture. (I love that sculpture, especially the way the bird's mought opens and shuts). They had got in easily enough, but the ducklings couldn't get out, because the distance from the water surface to the top of the concrete pond lip was too great. Mama duck was frantic and desperate ducklings were trying but failing to climb on her back.
Egged on by our tender-hearted womenfolk, a concerned citizen and I mounted a rescue effort, and just as we had the mother duck and half the ducklings on the bank, a Person from Porlock bowled up and said "what are you doing?" and frightened them all back in again. At which point we gave up on the futile operation.
I hope it was a Bill Bailey "anthropomorphic drama" but I'm afraid Nature, and pond builders, are a bitch.

Rules have been that I reserve the right to snoop or burst in at any time when computer is not used in public space. Perfect privacy is a privilege of adulthood. As teenage years wear on there might be room for negotiation about that, or not.
Because of my profession I'm reasonably certain I can snoop sufficiently well.

Kyle: I was at a brewery in Vancouver a little while ago (Granville Island) that offered a Maple Cream Ale that had maple syrup in it. After a quite nice APA, it tasted like beer milkshake.

Those Malthouse urinals are repellent. Photo from another squicked patron.

Jeez, I didn't blog my septoplasty pictures. If I'd realised there was this pent-up demand for amateur medi-porn I'd have been more conscientious.

For what it's worth, every workplace I've had in the last 10 years has had somewhere to leave a bike, and all but one has had a shower. It's something I ask about in the interview.

Turned out this was a regular event where cyclists take over the streets.
If that was Critical Mass, in several US cities they have a reputation for being jerks who put off even other cyclists.

Llew: here. It's not too bad actually. I'm still digesting it.
