  • Polity: TPP, eh?,

    From Joe’s link…

National has created the menacing-sounding role of “political correctness eradicator” to counter the Government’s “PC” culture that it says is eroding New Zealanders’ rights and freedoms.

Which particular New Zealanders would they be I wonder?.
The ones described as “Prominent New Zealanders”? some even with permanent name suppression.

  • Polity: TPP, eh?, in reply to izogi,

Sure, some of the benefit gets spread around but part of it is also subsidising private gain.

I have looked at all the, available, stuff so far and have a little extra to add to Izogi’s last point and that is…
It is a big win for the middlemen.
The “rights holders”, the patent holders, the “owners” of “Trademarks” and those that hold shares in those industries and companies that rely, completely, in standing between suppliers/creators and the customer or supporter.
Just another step in the direction of more power to the wealthy.
Those who find themselves on trade mark infringement charges could pay more, with New Zealand courts to be given new discretion to award additional damages.
Those penalties would come on top of the compensatory damages already provided for under New Zealand law for trade mark infringement.

  • Speaker: TPPA: It's Extreme,

See here for a live stream of the planned press conference later today from Atlanta:

Why does it not surprise me that the video is private.
    Humbug...

  • Hard News: The positive option of Red Peak, in reply to Richard Grevers,

Au contraire, how can you have a meaningful vote on “do you want to change the flag?” if there’s no context of what it would change to?

The context is self explanatory... Do you want to change the flag? means changing it to something other than the existing one... simple.

  • Hard News: About Chris Brown, in reply to Craig Ranapia,

fucked up and broken in so many ways.
    As Danielle so rightly says,
we’ve all got to make our own way through that maze.

Craig... you little hip hop lyricist you... ;-)

  • Hard News: About Chris Brown, in reply to Sue,

    Why are they doing this?
    Why?

The whole Maori/Hip Hop thing gets me. Hip Hop used to be a kind of Hippieish form of dance culture thing, Disposable Heroes, Michael Franti, The Beatnigs. The ethos was family oriented philosophy based movement of sorts, a kind of black Grateful Dead if you will.
To call Chris Brown Hip Hop is stretching the genre to the extremes if you ask me but nobody did.
As to why. I imagine some people take great pride in their ignorance.

    Attachment

I meant that, as in, melancholic is the new happy.

A paralysing puddle of pervasive pointlessness.
    Good Morning cruel world,
should I get up or roll over and sleep,
perchance to dream of people over profit?
or take a leap of faith and walk into a world of denial.

Epic Post Russell, must have taken you all week ;-)
Do you ever worry that you missives on a Friday may lead to another "Scottish Thread"? (the thread that dare not mention its name).
I despair of the industry that that sux artists and fans for all they are worth dry and in reality is no longer relevant as a distribution network. Imagine the world we live in if an artist never performed or created unless there was a way of "monetising" their work, it would be a dull and predictable world indeed. We would have a music scene not too dissimilar to the movie world where the only thing that gets made and pushed to the public is sensationalist dross, it would be all Chris Brown and Justin Bieber with all the associated antisocial behavioural problems.
Roll on the death of copyright as we know it.
