  • Hard News: Go Us,

From Josh Marshall blogging live on McCain:

10:50 PM ... TPM Reader PT: "What are the odds Governor Palin drops McCain from the ticket? After a performance like this, it's a serious question."

  • Hard News: Listen to the Music,

Hey, you read it, you get to criticise it. No skin off my nose. Sure it's flawed; if I was to do it again I'd interview more fans, women etc. but until someone else pulls finger, it's all we got.

fair call, but that's why I didn't go into the various criticisms I heard, which very loosely from folks I know who were a very big part of the Auckland punk and post punk vista were more along the lines of Christchurch was done well (and I don't know that scene) but Auckland wasn't (and I do have a reasonable handle on that scene, more than most). But without reading it I'm not making a judgement beyond that.

And to be fair Dix did nail a fair part of the post 76 Auckland thing pretty well actually. He was there, talking to people from about 1980 ( I first met him that year I think) onwards and he caught the spirit.

As an aside, I tried to buy the book a few times in Auckland without luck...is it still in print?

  • Hard News: Go Us,

the treat them dumb and dumber approach still has the most resonance.

    Annnd further to that:

It started like a harmless joke, didn't it? Sarah Palin is from Alaska, Alaska is near Russia, and since Republican rhetoric has become breathtakingly ridiculous lately, some of us joked that Republicans might think the proximity between the state and the country counts as foreign policy experience. It was meant as satire. No one really expected Republicans to make the argument.

    <snip>

John McCain, then, is fifth. Remember, when Doocy first made the argument, it was so laughable on its face that Jon Stewart called him a "moron." Now, the Republican nominee for president is making the same pitch, hoping people are just stupid enough to believe it.

Palin has never been to Russia. She's never demonstrated any expertise on U.S. policy towards Russia. She doesn't have any background in international relations at any level. But for Republicans, the fact that she's lived in a state near Russia is somehow a qualification for national office.

It's the dumbest argument I've ever heard.

  • Hard News: Go Us,

Gallup and Rasmussen still at +7 and +5.

I'm still saying that this election is McCain's. If anything Sarah Palin showed us the that the treat them dumb and dumber approach still has the most resonance.

Big lies delivered as gospel without a blink, a big slab of kentucky fried fear, a touch of homely flag waving and simplistic platitudes masquerading as policy will win every time.

Sadly that's the America Rove knows and he's right.

  • Hard News: At home with the art-hackers,

because of the way they've applied their DRM.

Is that the same EA who screwed up my daughters computer so completely on a dozen different levels with their securom on The Sims 2 that I had to demolish the hard drive and reinstall everything to get it working again(she lost a bunch of long term homework in the process)?

    I guess it is....

  • Hard News: At home with the art-hackers,

So the news is that Spore crashes at launch, reporting an "access violation" and a missing DLL -- after, of course, deciding it needs to update. Very disappointed boy.

And the download site has been stuck in some hell loading-loop for two days

    Very disappointed girl..

  • Hard News: The out-of-control manchild…,

    Squeeze (which he was in!)

And I'm gonna put my hand up and say "so was I" (although not in any meaningful way..unlike David..I was an extra in 2 scenes, although parts of it were shot in my dinning room)

  • Hard News: At home with the art-hackers,

a brass section with loud guitars is hard to beat.

Does that mean The Spelling Mistakes are gonna use The Newmatics brass section for a live take of Feel So good?

  • Hard News: Go Us,

I had no idea God has legal or constitutional authority to declare way or deploy the armed forces of the United States of America. You learn something new every day, don't you?

It's called Jihad, Craig..our lass from the high country is a trojan it seems. Incidently it seems the church video has been pulled from the site.

Oops, checking before I clicked post, now the whole site has been pulled...

  • Hard News: Go Us,

and good do simon we agree on something. Air Force one on Ebay - That would be something :)

So this last, most recent, post-before-thinking-moment from you would have the POTUS on a commercial flight?

Victory in Iraq is finally in sight

is a policy position? Seriously? Seriously??

No, it's a half baked platitude that is there simply to get a crowd response. My friend, if you are gonna rant about politics you should at least ground yourself in a few basics.

And she can replace the F16's with snowmobiles.

    Now that's policy!
