I'm following the NY Times reporting -
front page and
and liveblog.Until Montgomery County reports (after 10pm ET), any call is premature. But the networks like to call things early...

As Renowden say, when reading the Listener, one doesn't know whether to laugh or cry, such are the number of statements contradicted by the available evidence presented as facts.
The exchange in the comments section, where this story emerges, is also very interesting.

Ok, completely OT, but worth mentioning - climate cranks claim a scalp
The Listener fires their environment reporter, after pressure from a oil-funded lobby group.

video one
video two
video threeOn another Utube note, has anyone in NZ noticed "this video is not presently available in your country" notices? They've popped up recently on a number of music videos for songs and albums that (thanks to the dire state of the Australian music industry) haven't been released here yet, and film trailers.

This page ripping is only the latest in a long line of defacement, burning, removing pages, lawsuits, censors injunctions, and other forms of abuse sent in the direction of the illustrious magazine.
Surely, this incident is something to celebrate and not condemn?

There are also long running conflicts in the east of India, in the seven states, ranging from demand for greater autonomy to outright separation.

Once we get that FTA we can all bulk up on cheap Swannies to keep warm ;-)
Perhaps cheap knock-offs. The 'genuine article' are now terribly expensive.

Prediction: 10 years from now Fonterra will be 'exporting' it's 'knowledge' in milk production to China. The government of the day will laud this as a 'success' and there will be much back-slapping over the revenue generated. Fonterra will show (for a price) the Chinese where they should build their dairy farms (areas recreating NZ conditions re climate, soil, grass production etc) and set up the modern dairy factories for them.
New Zealand companies are already involved in sending their knowledge offshore. New Zealand's dairy and cattle expertise and equally importantly, genetic stock, are being exported on a reasonable scale, and hailed as a success. Say goodbye to that competitive advantage (of course, good soil and consistent rainfall cannot yet be exported).

On the subject of cycling: Cars, trucks and buses harm cyclists every time a cyclist is in their proximity, by emitting toxic gases. Putting a exhaust pipe in front of your mouth, when your body is sucking in large amounts of air due to exercise, is not a good idea. Cars slow cyclists down, and they poison them.

The Mardi Gras is truly something worth celebrating. And yet, the Australian Federal Government will only allow so many changes, already trying to strongarm the ACT out of legalising same-sex unions.
