Hard News: Is that it?, in reply to
seems wholly at odds with the notion of encouraging personal responsibility, enabling our population to reach budgeting maturity,
Some people just can't or won't, Ben said "
Some freedoms just should not be allowed. The freedom to be enslaved, for instance.
I disagree, the freedom to be enslaved is still a choice, to some, slavery is freedom, freedom from unwanted free will, strange but true.
I mentioned defloating the dollar
But what could you tie it to? Gold? our Dollar would be worth so much in a short time it would either kill our exports or destabilise out internal economy, it would be chaos. (the converse of this would be if the US were to tie their Dollar to Gold then the price of gold, comparative to other currencies, would go through the roof so fast you'll wet yourself.
Just look at the US Debt Clock
Lookout for the shitstorm. One of the things that irks me are the constant MSM reminders that NZers can’t save, where I suspect that social and economic conditioning does play a large role.

did you really just make an association from Key to mincing
I thought he just looked comfortable and relaxed, in a smiley, hand wavy kind of way.
A gorgeous, cute, little prime minister.
Nice puppy... -

there is a tear in our time -
a lot of decisions, but just not enough thought.
Sounds like Nact to me, just add "Urgency"

I’d assert that if Labour were to turn themselves around and advocate truly radical policies, they might be surprised at the support they’d get.
I think you misread the average New Zealand voter, they don't want radical they want justice, exactly how that justice manifests itself to individuals varies. Is there more justice in allowing those with "Hard Earned Money" to stuff it in their mattresses or buy a little bit of a power company to flog off at a profit as soon as it gains an attractive share price? with no tax I must add. Or is there more justice in adhering to the concept at the root of International justice, The United Nations, "To each according to their need, from each according to their ability"?. Is there more justice in caring about those at the "unfortunate" end of society?
All the policies you quote, attributing to Labour, also apply to Nact, along with a bunch of more odious strategies for their wish-list of "Opportunities" for their mates and their retirement.
I Love this Country, its People and its underlying egalitarian spirit, far more than I could ever love riches and the mean spirit of those that would take what little we have for their own comfort. It is not easy to oppose someone who smiles and waves, changes his colours and never admits to what he really thinks. He may as well be a cartoon character running in mid air and those that can still see his Emperor clothes will never expect him to fall.
He has little,
under his feet.
Mr John Jandles.
I feel comfortable,
And relaxed,
about flip-flops. -

The govt are quietly planning further mining. Fortunately the environmental movement are somewhat more effective than Labour right now
There you go, bagging Labour again.
The only reason they can be "quietly planning further mining" is because they scared the horses with the mind numbing idea that we could do it open pit, open slather in our precious National Parks, wildlife sanctuaries and Kiwi nests.
It ain't easy being a serious opposition when Nact has some powerful propaganda foo and just twists the knife while cynically smiling and waving.
I think you are blaming the wrong folks here Sacha, if you think Labour are bad then you have just been suckered by the PR scam that is Nact. -
Hard News: 2011: The Year Of What?, in reply to
"How can an idea that bad have got this far?"
Ask the ‘opposition’Perhaps if folks like Sacha could stop campaigning for Nact dear old Phil will have a chance.
On the asset sale bollocks I call bluff. They did it with the strip mining of our National parks... "Oooo, see? Look how we listen to the people, we have decided not to do something really unpopular and stupid"
On the lead up to the Election we will be told that "The economy is doing so well under National that we no longer have to sell your Granny, ain't we Great?"The Opposition have done plenty to voice their displeasure at the idea of asset sales and the latest rumblings from Hone Harewera about rolling Goff and the "Old School" for younger Labour reps is just foolish, we all know young people take far too many drugs, lack discipline and drive badly to be able to run the country.

Can't DB be slapped with a Commerce Commission big slappy thing for false advertising.
Radler is German for Shandy, well close enough. It is supposed to be a refreshing low alcohol beverage, about 2.5%. It is not supposed to be a 5% alcopop.
I would suggest that the name "Radler" is deliberately misleading and aimed at poor, defenceless, little children with the intention of turning them into mindless National Voters.
