  • Hard News: Fake Fiona Rae,

I suspect (alternatively) they'll fill in the form and it'll get put in the pile of 'Stuff we can't do anything about', along with a heap of burglaries, stolen cars etc.

Yep. With no witness and no rego., this is way beyond anything the Police will do anything about. Frankly, I've never had any luck getting them to help me. The last time was when I returned a found wallet with $120 in it. Despite being the only person waiting at the Community Constable's office, it was 20 minutes before the guy got off the phone, and then he gave me all kinds of grief because I didn't want to give him a page and a half of personal info.

So, in the end: "Potter's Park; Today, OK?", chucked it on the bench and walked out.

Re: Mr. Toad's wild ride: I think most likely the offspring of the owner. Hard to explain, but no-one with more than two years' road experience would've pulled that manoeuvre if they actually owned that car (it wasn't just dangerous; it was insanely reckless).

Don't mean to take up to much bandwith on this one. Thanks for the comments. I just mentioned it on the off-chance someone would say:

OMG. It's parked outside of my work right now!!

PS. I have no insurance, but don't feel too bad. After 20 years without it, I'm way ahead.

Very sorry to hear that, IO. I can certainly appreciate how that happens; I was this close ().

  • Hard News: Fake Fiona Rae,

Yeah, Cale was boring. My take: if you're going to be "modern" you've got to bring it further forward than 1996, right?

We split for Liam Finn and he was pretty awesome, live-looping himself so as to play up to three guitar parts, bass, drums, and theremin, all at the same time. And singing of course.

However, if anyone knows of a late-model bronze-coloured Rolls Royce or Bentley with right rear damage, I want that bastard's number. Sideswiped me @ 130 kph on the Esmonde Road offramp sending me into a very nearly catastrophic spin, by end of which I was back on the motorway. He owes me damages and an apology.

  • Hard News: The Finance Campaign,

    Craig:

'The public'? Oh, you mean a self-selecting sample in a poll where it's possble to vote multiple times? (I know it's possible because I did it.)

    Herald:

nzherald.co.nz"s technical team has established that a single hacker managed to vote more than 5000 times in a period of about 10 minutes.

    Hmmm. ;)

  • Hard News: The Finance Campaign,

I read it as another attempt by the Herald to perpetuate the "dishonest Labour" meme (I'm not saying there's nothing to it, but there's such a thing as balance).

With regard to the Herald's self-interest, there's a lot more to it than merely ad revenue. A National-led coalition government would clearly be more capital-friendly, providing more favourable Industrial Relations and Tax regimes, etc.

I found some irony in yesterday's headline. For me 'democracy' neccesarily includes having a balanced and honest informing of the public. On that basis democracy is under attack from the NZH every week.

  • THIS JUST IN,

    Finn,
I wasn't suggesting that, but "tagged" was a poor choice of words, and it was a confusing comment, so I'll withdraw it.

    and have a nap.

  • THIS JUST IN,

I don't get your point at all.

    Pretty much what Stephen said.

To think that a person has tagged himself as a terrorist by accurately relating that he is being pursued by the state under the Terrorism Suppression Act...

  • THIS JUST IN,

I can't be the only person who finds people who repeatedly open responses to other people's seriously argued posts with "Ha ha" very obnoxious.

Perhaps so, but you've got to admit, the idea that "the first evidence of the use of the TSA" was someone publicising their being subject to a TSA warrant, rather than the actual issuing of the warrant, is rather laughable.

  • THIS JUST IN,

Just to be pendantic, before they've commited an act, aren't they just 'people', not 'criminals'?

Don't worry, the irony was intended.

  • THIS JUST IN,

Kyle, do you want laws that catch criminals before they've committed their act?
