  • Hard News: There's Always One,

The whole $cientology mess couldn't be happening to a better cult - of course for info about the other side (and all the stuff they don;t want you to see) please check out www.xenu.net

I got involved with the early Scientology vs. the Net debacle (on the 'net side of course) - once almost starting a riot while dressed as a can of spam in front of one of their offices - I was giving away (real) cans of spam to homeless people and ran out - eventually they actually came to my home and picketted my wife and kids - scary people - even have their own para-military and prison labour camps

Xenu did once visit my home - a great honour

Finally one should note that Anonymous has not been idle after the recent release of the secret pastafarian video there has been a response

  • Hard News: Post Foo,

I found my self largely avoiding geeky stuff and going to business type sessions which is amazing because I NEVER go to biz sessions

Now I understand how stuff works I think next time we really need to get our act together and just do a making water rockets session, followed by the appropriate mayhem outside

Oh and yeah Keith Ng is totally evil at werewolf - turned my minor success into a wonderfull werewolf mind-fuck with his decoy move

Thanks everyone for putting it on I really enjoyed it

PS: (I'll be equally impressed if the Nats do the same thing)

  • OnPoint: The Master Plan,

I've been really impressed by Cullen's non-spending, save for a rainy day economic plan - it's what we all ought to be doing in our private economic life, save and pay down debt when things are doing well, borrow some to tide you over when things are tough - the problem of course is that, just like our private economics, it's so much easier to spend than save or pay off debt, especially when you're getting a bit flush, and borrowing when things are tough can be a real trap

Anyway I'm impressed - politicians usually don't have this much self control

  • Hard News: Theories, please ...,

Having dealt with 401Ks in the US and currently looking at KiwiSavers here in NZ I find the NZ choices much more difficult - partly it's because in the US your employer basically chooses a securities vendor (a large bank or brokerage) and you choose the investment vehicles you want from their menu>

There's a lot of incentive there for the employers not to choose someone who's going to run off with your money (you might sue) or to encourage you to choose a particular type of fund (again you might sue if the market goes south).

It all makes signing up pretty - you get a menu, often you just write %s summing to 100 next to funds and that's it - once a year or so you can change as your risk tolerance or circumstances change

So far KiwiSaver seems much harder to parse (I'm my own employer too ....) I don't obviously see that sort of choice here - mostly it just seems to be heavily managed funds

  • Hard News: Grateful for 'Rain',

That's true - there is a difference between printing a picture of someone who is posing in front of his house for PR purposes (he does need to spend some time on that lawn) and printing a pic of someones house that was taken apparently for the purposes of stalking.

  • Hard News: Grateful for 'Rain',

I'll always remember Hone in the downstairs bar at the Cook (while all those great Dunedin bands were playing upstairs) - thanks for the links

I was going to suggest they name the new Dunedin (spit) stadium after Ed, but maybe Hone would be a better target

"Later in the day the duty minister also popped out of his tent to announce the death of Sir Ed, explaining that the cabinet would be toning down the music and slowing the jet skis for the rest of the day and that evening would be hoisting a few in his memory"
