  • Feed: Meals for Me, in reply to Emma Hart,

For a while last year we’d got into a really good routine where once a week one of our teenagers would cook. It’s harder this year with our son at uni and sports and stuff that means they don’t get home til quite late sometimes, but we really should get back on to it.

We're quite proud that our teens are each cooking once a week now, but I can see how that may be threatened next year when Boy is off to varsity.

I suspect they'll be popular when they go flatting, because I'm not aware of similar skills amongst their peers.

...from the normal family cooking I do six days a week every week all the time.

No one else in your family cooks ? That's a bit sad...

  • Feed: Meals for Me,

My partner and daughter don't like seafood, so if they're not around I cook up some onion, kumara, gold/red/orange capsicum, parsnip, yam (if available), and greens with some butter in the electric frypan, throwing in some frozen surimi, calamari and mushrooms once the kumara is cooked (about 8 minutes). Quick & easy meal for one.

Yeah. Our politicians are always planning things for a 30 year time frame. Oh ... hang on ... where did that extra zero come from ...

Fantastic work Keith. Clearly laid out and explained. When talking about increases and decreases, Tax Rate most certainly does not equate to Tax Amount.

Oh, and anybody who's put off by the phrase "interactive data visualisation", don't be. It comes with a handy-dandy slide show that explains things in 8 easy steps. Go on - give it a go.

We went and saw John Gordillo tonight. Really neat show - thought-provoking and funny. It's one of my pet hates - corporations trying to pretend that they are a person, and, moreover, a friend. Recommended.

  • Speaker: Why we can’t just fix secondary…, in reply to Australopithecus,

They did have one more – won’t folks just stop working? I don’t think the spirit of capitalism will die that easily :-). Some might say I have enough, by far the majority will want more than the basics.

I think this might actually be a good thing. People who do not really want to work, and can live frugally, could spend their time idly, or raising children, or producing music/art/writing etc. This would make more jobs available for those who want to work for the extra money. Employers would probably need to be more flexible (eg part time workers) in order to get their roles filled.

Ideallistic possibly, but it needn't be perfect. only better than what we've currently got.
