  • Speaker: KICK IT! Football's comin' home,

2002, it strikes me, was unmemorable (Turkey made the semi-finals unless Wikipedia is having a laugh)

I kind of waited to see if this was going to be commented on, but... oi! Turkey had a very good team and was deserved semifinalist. What are you trying to say here?

(Bear in mind I'm still not allowed to tell Kyle who won the Stanley Cup in 2009).

Actually, I don't know, I was just going by what Sofie said :-)
I assumed we'd be discussing the games discussed in each blog, which makes sense.

    what is Panini anyway?

It's... well, I'll leave it to Giovanni.

Just a surname. Franco Panini - an arts publisher - is the chap who started it all. The first sticker albums, in the Sixties, were about the Italian domestic football league, but by the time I was a kid there were albums for tournaments such as the world cup or the most popular cartoon series, nowadays everything under the sun has its own album. Back in the day, the equivalent of 10-20 cents would buy you a packet of five stickers and then you'd trade your doubles, which was all the fun. You could actually send out for the missing stickers you needed to complete an album, but only sad arses did that.

Name-wise, the Panini family must have been bakers at some stage.

As I'm sure I mentioned before, the 1982 panini sticker album is where I discovered that New Zealand existed.

  • Hard News: Costly indeed,

Well... I hear an undertone of rape in "When Harry Banged Sally" (and that would offend against the consenting adults criterion), but not in "When Harry and Sally Shagged". So not quite exactly.

Of for crying out loud... That being the case, I see an undertone of the hated patriarchy in "When Harry Met Sally", as opposed to "When Harry and Sally Met". Blame Nora Ephron, I say.

    Exactly?

Yes. Unless the laws of the land have been manipulated when I wasn't looking.

  • Hard News: Costly indeed,

And that's exactly why it shouldn't be on the taxpayers' tab, even momentarily. It's private, personal business. What is so hard to understand about that?

Nothing is hard to understand, and nobody is disputing it. I'm simply making the point that Jones was singled out from the pack of the offenders - to the point where apparently his career is in jeopardy - purely because he rented porn. I guarantee you that if he had rented When Harry Met Sally it wouldn't have made the papers and we'd be talking about somebody else. Yet When Harry Met Sally and When Harry Banged Sally constitute exactly the same offence.
