In another badly designed poll in te Herald "Has the Budget changed how you'll vote in November's election?" 31% say the budget has changed who they vote for.
Either there are heaps of Labour and Green voters who are so impressed with the fairy tale dreams of this budget or many of those that believed the empty promises of John the Smiler are feeling let down. One thing is for sure, this is certainly an "Ambitious" attempt at doing nothing.

And that after the second trip, every further one that day was free, and after the 10th trip in a week, the rest of the bus trips that week were free.

Those kind of systems maybe more expensive to implement but they work, It costs the bus company nothing , other than if they stop for just you but that should not incur a penalty for the traveller, it is more than made up for in increased patronage. The Oyster Card in London works the same, in terms of travelling costs.
I do wonder about the implications of tying the card to retail though, I suppose it could work. How long before we all have a chip fitted and get told where we have to work that day...
    Scary.

Rumour is that the new Matangi trains draw too much power from the system,

I suppose the reason nobody figured that one out was because eMail has replaced envelopes so they find it hard to calculate these things.

    Herald

Rail was another big infrastructure winner, with $250m to go towards the KiwiRail turn-around plan, which aims to turn it into a self-sustaining freight business within 10 years.

Well, that came as a surprise, is Steven Joyce in a coma or something?.

Which may give rise to some interesting choices for our former currency trading PM in the relatively near future if it turns out that the above theory has any merit :)

The size of the New Zealand economy is small enough for an astute trader to "slip through" meaningful deals without alarming the rest of the economic world I suspect. Let's hope he doesn't "sell the farm" as it were.

  • OnPoint: Budget 2011: A Credible Path to…, in reply to Alastair Thompson,

The important thing is that the ratings agencies are buying them and the foreigners are buying our sovereign debt at record low yields. So much so that we have borrowed roughly $7 billion this year that we arguably don’t need yet.

So, I suppose that means having a currency trader as a PM using Treasury as his trading portfolio is a good thing?.

Interestingly by defailt I.E.9 is not yet flash supported –

HTML5 kinda makes Flash redundant, if your browser supports HTML5 then you will only use flash for sites that have not updated their content to be compatible with the new standard. As far as I know, not being a user of a computer made of fruit, the iPad and its siblings don't support Flash either.
