Am I late to suggest Maria Pia's? It really is quite fabulous

As good as in Milan? By the way are you there yet and did you get held up by the red dust over Oz?

Martha's Pantry, just off the top of Cuba Street in one of the original buildings of the area, is a great place to take someone who likes pretty, old china teacups, cake stands, memorial spoons and other quaint NZ memorabilia, Nice food too. Note the old well nearby.

Wearable Arts is cold outside, hot inside and warn your mother that some of it might be a little loud. Topp Twins in great form, Event still highly original even after all these years. New fold section amazing. Outleashed men replace bizarre bras this year.

(And I think that's my niece inside the jigsaw pieces.)

  • Hard News: A Real Alternative,

While many of the changes were necessary and overdue, others might be regretted.

He doesn't say who is doing the regretting. I can imagine some health care providers such as doctors, anaesthetics etc would much prefer they did not have to treat patients as real people, and explain the procedures they might need and the implications, let patients decide between options, and ask (and wait) for their consent. Much quicker to be the all-knowing and unquestioned 'authority' (as Dr Green was).

  • Hard News: A Real Alternative,

This book seems to have been a sideline diversion which came up while doing that work.

    Reality or spin?

  • Hard News: Rodney on the Road,

I'm going to go and eat worms

As in this old vegetarian rhyme, Amy?

Nobody loves me, everybody hates me
I'm going to go eat worms
Long thin slimy ones, big fat fuzzy ones
    Ughey gooey ughey gooey worms

Long thin slimy ones slip down easily
    Big fat fuzy ones don't
Big fat fuzzy ones stick to your teeth
And the juice goes slurp down your throat

'whanga' has several meanings - in Williams, "1:bay, bight, nook 2: stretch of water.

    Names for Wellington

Te-Whanganui-a-Tara (Great harbour of Tara - Tara was an important mariner ancestor) -

Victoria University uses the 'place at the mouth of the fish of Maui' - te upoko o te ika a Maui (really needs macrons to make sense)

Poneke - is a transliteration of Port Nicholson

How would you envisage PA developing in the future - anything you would like to see happening?

If anyone really wants to track the 'progress' of pakeha attempts to create a written script of the oral Maori language and all its dialects, all known examples of printed Maori are listed and annotated in 'Books in Maori 1815-1900' compiled by Phil Parkinson and Penny Griffith of the Alexander Turnbull Library, 2004. 'wh' and 'ng' are two sounds they found particularly problematic.
(And sorry can't work out how to insert macrons)

The references to the Marsden Fund and Auckland University Press peer review processes were interesting. Just who were they asking?

Giovanni - 'Home'? Will Wellington ever become 'home'? Never having gone very far for very long, I can't imagine what it is like to re-locate half way around the world

Re the Wgtn get-together, we could all gate-crash Russell and your Maria Pia's meatballs.
