I was thinking that the cascading questions I gave earlier might give us a framework for more precision in labeling positions. A pure denier is a "level 1 skeptic". They deny climate change is even happening. I'd put FG as more like a "level 4 skeptic". He denies that we should do much about it, although I'm not sure if it's as simple as that. It seems to more be denying that we aren't already doing something about it, which will probably be enough. A Humans Can Adapt skeptic. Remember, he is actually a farmer who IS doing something about it, although I think his reasons aren't to prevent climate change, but more about sustainable agricultural practices, and pollution.

He said it can be a threat AND an opportunity. That's not inconsistent with thinking things will not be getting worse, if you think the opportunity side of it is highly significant.
But it does seem odd to call oneself a climate change skeptic if one does not deny climate change. Would a new word for people who accept climate change but are skeptical that it will be a catastrophe be helpful?

Mind chatter does not allow these types to scale back. That is why man invented Beer or so I’m told.
I thought he invented it to give it to Woman, in order to make Child :-)
Bearing in mind that t’other as we type is still “finishing” our house. He has taken to a working day of,Coffee, 4 hours on, beer.

It's great what you've achieved, David, but IMHO you should cut back on the obsession. You've come away from disaster with something that is a lovely place to live in, after all that hard work.
So live in it.
Budget out your time for the remaining hundreds of tasks - you're now in the same situation as pretty much every house owner in NZ. I've also got hundreds of little tasks that seem to really stretch out. But I'm determined to also have a life in the meantime. A towel on a hook will do. Long grass will only be a millimeter longer tomorrow, and a mowed patch is better than no patch.
Unless, of course, you secretly love it. I can never be sure, with people who obsess about finishing projects with a neverending horizon of perfection. It is certainly fulfilling. I guess the question is "do you like being a Grumpy Old Builder?". If not, scale back, become "Smug Old Character Villa Owner". I know which one I'd rather be. But that is me (and I will probably never own a character villa).

I'd think that a big competitor for short air travel on continents would be high speed trains. That's technology for which there is considerable room for efficiency improvement. The main cost is the infrastructure. At the extreme end of dreaming about it, they could travel in vacuum tunnels at higher speeds than any aircraft, whilst using much less energy (and electricity at that). But we're talking building a wonder of the world there. Short of that there's the high speed trains already in existence that beat the crap out of traveling in any blimp ever invented. If we had an Auckland to Wellington that was even capable of 200km/h on average, I think it would be a big competitor to flying, not to mention the benefit to all towns along the line. If 320km/h lines around Europe managed to connect up most of the major centers, they'd definitely rival air travel around the continent.

Surely smoking wood can’t be good for humans – do the manufacturers have anything to say about that?
I don't know what they actually use, but people who like to smoke various powders have often said that the best thing to mix them into is mullein. I wonder if this is why cannabis is often colloquially called mull.
