  • Hard News: Chasing the Trans-Pacific Express, in reply to Adzze,

    And, surely, all Freeview content being made available on Sky including additional free to air channels such as Heartland (which isn't even available on FV!). Of course a large percentage of people were going to opt for MySky, even if you don't own the box (despite paying for it).My worry is that Freeview is going to die a slow death and we'll have just one major broadcast content provider (at least until TV-over-IP becomes competitive anyway).

    Sky couldn't have planned it better eh?
    What the hell were TVNZ up to when they made that suicidal decision. It's almost like someone decided to kill off public broadcasting, Kordia ain't getting much help either but being a very smart organisation they will branch out and survive I think even though Mssr Joyce and Key have done their damnedest to destroy them.

    I hope not, because I think Waitakere is rather nice and the people I know from round there are thoroughly agreeable.

    Outrageously so. ;-)

    it seems that a) Trevor Rogers can’t run a business and b) that he can’t even fail to run a business honestly.

    The “offence” that he committed was a mere technicality which he, and his wife, dispute, the apparent refusal to hand over intellectual property. While this is seen legally as the property of the company and as such should be handed over to the receiver it is quite unusual for this to go as far as it has. The reason for the continued demands for drawings and descriptions of said properties is evidence of their value, value to whom you should ask, if it were so valuable it should have counted as an asset and as such been accepted as value in the company thus staving off bankruptcy.
    I fear that this case smacks of a powerful agent acting against the greater interests of the country as a whole.
    It is not against the law or even unethical to be a shockingly bad businessman, in fact many of our more successful entrepreneurs have faced failure at some point in their endeavours. As I said before, I would be swinging more than a handbag if I were being shafted for my ideas for the benefit of a foreign power.

    ETA.
    If you compare the way this case has gone to the appalling behaviour and sheer mendacity of Mark Bryers and his legal team then you can see that justice is not of the slightest importance here.

    I’m guessing they’ve long since disowned him, after he broke away and formed a new party with Ross Meurant.

    I was actually thinking from a business perspective. If this could have been a winner then smiley could have held him up as a shining example of a Kiwi entrepreneur but if spooks were involved where is John boys ambishusnesss now?

    If ACT go down the tubes, fingers crossed that they do, and Winnie comes back from the dead with a few list seats, and, The election is a close call. What is a smiling assassin to do? go back on his word and snuggle up to Doctor No or hand Goff the keys to the treasury?

    the ex-Nat MP who tried to censor the Internet is about to serve time. And his wife is a handbagger to boot.

    Much as I am amongst the first to bag a bent MP, speshly a Nat. I have found this to be quite a sad case. I came across this company several years ago and was impressed with their vision, not so much the Military stuff but the entire concept.
    Unmanned rescue helicopters would save lives but this was more than that. The development of a modern two stroke diesel powered aircraft with a flight time exceeding 30 hours was a phenomenal challenge and these guys were on to it. This was world leading technology and even the judge admitted as such, who knows what went wrong, I suspect there was mischief afoot as is the case of any military development done in this country. After all their hard work and development to be sent to jail, shit, I'd be swinging more than a handbag. Where is Mr Smiley Wavey on this one eh?

    “but I’ve always voted Labour” which translates to me as “…and I’m too intellectually slothful to invest the time and energy needed to re-evaluate that”.

    Better Red than Dead I say. The thing that always got me about my parents generation was the attitude of "yes well, it's all very well to be idealistic when your young but when you grow up..."
    Both my Mother and Father were staunch Labour supporters when I was a kid, in fact my Mother was once a member of the Communist party. When my Father died she became more and more right wing, to the point of becoming a member of the UKIP.

    If anything, the All Blacks winning would favor the incumbent. But I’d take it anyway. I wasn’t really suggesting any correlation, though, just extracting the principle that just because something is hard is no excuse not to try at it, particularly when that is your actual job.

    Very true Ben.
    Me?. I would forgo an All Black victory to get shot of these mongrels.

    Che Tibby;
    these guys are likely to pull in 60 seats on the back of Key's charm and their response to CHCH. that really opens up some options.

    That nice man Key, with his wavey smileyness, will not be winning many hearts in Christchurch methinks. When you have lost your house, your job and many possessions, any reaction by the authorities is not going to be good enough. I heard on Nat. radio this morning that the nice My Key has been studying other Governments reactions to natural disasters, like hurricane Katrina, just one of the things that cost the Republicans the election, as usual his reaction is "More of the same" relaxed and seeing how it goes.

    Clint Fern;
    I'd certainly agree that Key is highly likely to be the leader of the next govt

    Now there's a weird thought, Key replacing Goff as leader of the Labour Party.
    Seriously, can we stop being so defeatist before the game commences?.

    Ben Wilson;
    I fully expect the Nats to win the next election. I also fully expect the All Blacks not to win the World Cup.

    There is a widely held belief that if the All Blacks lose then so will National, Kiwis love the blame game. And Ben, why so negetive? why not "If the All Blacks win the people will feel so good about each other they will all vote Labour out of sheer bliss"?

    Leopold;
    Having to use a chemical toilet and wondering what has happened to your job, possessions within the Cordon and CD-Brownlee stuffups does skew your persective

    Return to beginning of post, rinse and repeat.
