Hard News: The Sky is the limit, in reply to
I think if the 'Gerry Brownlie Memorial Stadium' were to be given the green light, there'd be riots!

I recall hearing this form used regularly by Jeremy Wells in his earlier (TV) shows. Taranaki has four syllables. Never heard anyone say they're from or its from the 'Watu or the 'Rapa. If my home city was officially known by its Maori name, then it could also be the 'Tahi?! The 'Church simply doesn't work. But this does!

Inspirational! I know of one or two young people who have yet to really tap into their niche interests, where they can focus their abilities. Jimmy shows anything's possible. I'll pass this on to them.

but in the end was completely blown away by Slowdive:
I recall seeing the original Slowdive in a grubby little pub in Willseden Green ca. 1990. The bass player lost his cool that night, smashed his bass, drove it into the stage. They were the wunderkids of the moment along with MVB and Lush.
While checking out (yet again) Russell's fav 'Christmas shopping tune', I happened upon an upload from earlier this year, a segment of an excellently recorded live show by Saints' contemporaries, Radio Birdman.(live at the Marryatville Hotel, I think in Adelaide). Closing track is a cover of Stooges' Search & Destroy.

I don't plan to attend the CWC but I will be there at Hagley Ovel, right from the first ball on Boxing Day. Hoping the sponsor's beer is half-way decent but not expecting much.
I don't like cricket, I love it...
In a year of favourites, my fav artist this year, who incidentally does play Dreadlock Holiday live when the mood suits, is Aldous Harding. Every show at the Porthole or wherever was different - and often threw up the unexpected! Here's No Peace

Freegal can be truly awful to negotiate but when one has teenage family members who have long since acquired their music from other sources, I use their cards it's almost possible to download an album a week :)
Not sure about the quality. Variable I've found. While the tracks are 256kbs mp3, there's something lacking, can't quite put a finger on it.
Christchurch libraries still have Freegal, Dunedin does too? I think Auckland dropped their Freegal service earlier in the year.

And now, a Christmas shopping message from The Saints …
Bugger, I was lining up to post that one! Looking forward to some of those delicious links.
Said advertising, you're lying; Never gonna give me what I want; I said, smooth talking, brain washing; Ain't never gonna get me what I need
And the brain washing is as intense as ever 36 yrs on, e.g. the incessant, rotating pre-Xmas sales for 'spavers'

And, in general, I think a good way forward for us will be through specialised subject blogs with multiple authors.
Great work Russell. It's the blog I spend most of my spare time (and not so spare time!) reading and I've really enjoyed contributing to specialist topics - love the Friday Music.
And a song for you, one you've often cited, a demo version thereof, posted by one Brian Eno
If a Lawrence Arabia version surfaces, I'd love to see it!
