  • Hard News: The Creepy Party,

Coastal Coalition watch: John Ansell still assiduously pushing things along on the web:

It was interesting to hear Linda Clark ranting against spokesman Dr Hugh Barr on Jim Mora’s show the other day.

Hugh was calmy laying out the facts and Linda was getting extremely huffy.

Emails the next day revealed that the audience clearly sided with Hugh. (As they did on the Stuff poll by a margin of three to one.)

Jim neglected to mention that Linda is now a lawyer with Chapman Tripp — lawyers to iwi.

To learn more about your prime minister’s plan to trade at least 10% of your country for Maori Party votes, go to www.CoastalCoalition.co.nz.

And a challenge to the Prime Minister just to cap it off.

  • Hard News: The Creepy Party,

James fills the flag-waving niche for me, though I don't want to know which flag.

Normal people don't salute that sort of crap, &c.

  • Hard News: The Creepy Party,

Update: Chris Trotter indignantly rebuts Scott Hamilton's claim that he has "pledged his support" to the Coastal Coalition.

'Twould seem a blog post approving of the CC stance on the Foreshore and Seabed and having writing approvingly hosted on the Coastal Coalition's resources page doesn't mean actual support until Chris says it does. Still seems odd to me though.

  • Hard News: The Creepy Party,

And back on topic, another piece from John Ansell on the Hide/Roy issue here. Highlights:

Rodney is no bully. He may look like Benito Mussolini, but in private he barely raises his voice. I once delivered a speech to him seconds before he was due to deliver it on TV. He just laughed and read it sight unseen. No one could tell. Anyone else would have deservedly flayed me alive. But he trusted me to reflect his brief. That’s the thing: Rodney trusts those who give him their best.

Heather can hardly complain about her dumping. It was she who actively shafted the much more competent and visible Muriel Newman – despite being voted only the 7th best MP by the members! God knows what that Board were thinking in placing her above so many talented people.

Heather’s loyalty to the ACT brand can best be seen by one glimpse of her personal website http://www.roy.org.nz/. You will note that it’s green, with no mention anywhere on the home page of the party that gave her its number 2 ranking. Can you imagine how hard it was for me trying to develop a consistent brand with that kind of thinking going on?

  • Hard News: The Creepy Party,

Since we don't yet have a dedicated thread for free-for-all Friday, I hope I can be forgiven for drawing PAS' attention to another piece of all-out creepiness: the Coastal Coalition, brought to you in part by Iwi/Kiwi "mastermind" John Ansell.

The official campaign website includes contributions from luminaries such as ACT's Muriel Newman, Michael Coote, and sadly but not altogether surprisingly Chris Trotter.

Heard about it first from Danyl McLauchlan, and there's now excellent comment up from Reading the Maps and The Press' Tahu Potiki.

    In summary: ick.

  • Hard News: Ideology for Evidence,

That needs to start at the very top, with judicious clue-by-four application to the various local body pollie tubbies who want to make the Dominion Road bus lanes into T2 lanes.

I particularly love how the proposal means that instead of buses having full priority at peak times, they would probably then have more congestion in the T2 lanes at precisely those times, because of the morning and afternoon school runs and rush hour - when you tend to get a lot more cars with 2+ occupants - which I reckon would cause delays knocking on right through the bus schedules...

    Replied:

Yup, so much easier to invent special 50-metre stretches of "I Can't Believe It's Not Still a Bus Lane" for buses and turning cars than to just put up a sign at the 50-metre mark...

This caller would certainly make an entertaining mayor. I have a feeling that if I asked him how to get from A to B, his answer would involve the whole rest of the alphabet, plus another few letters he'd invented himself just for fun.

  • Up Front: After the Big Gay Revolution,

I could unpick the gorgeous tapestry of bullshit that statement weaves, but life is too short and the people who need to be lobotomised with a brass-tipped awl are never going to read PAS anyway...

Sad but true - I've had the same reaction when hearing various people opine that missing mother Carmen Thomas couldn't have really been a genuinely responsible parent, if she was she certainly wouldn't be in that line of work...

  • Hard News: iPad Impressions,

    Chris Carter...

It is prophesied that Chris shall fall and rise again, to come into his future glory as the Clay Davis of Te Atatu. On that day he will judge the living and the politically dead, and his air miles shall have no end.
