All that science training wasn't wasted, then? :)

Well from the perspective of learning to write confusing and ultimately pointless documents, no not at all.

And while I do get paid well enough now jeez I could have made much more money elsewhere, so yes wasted.

It's been fun though, except for the bits that weren't fun, and interesting, apart from the repetitive boring bits.

However, considering the data obtained thus far and after and exhaustive literature survey, I'm not sure.

and a few appliances that I had assumed wouldn’t work, but will be fine with transformers.

While it is true that appliances will work on transformers you need to remember that it is a net loss of energy. Transformers get warm that tells you you are wasting energy. Also any appliance with a big current draw will need a big transformer so you need space on the bench for the appliance AND the transformer.

So the take home message is the bread maker we brought home and still use was a worthwhile option, especially since they weren't common here back then. But several other appliances have simply been replaced with kiwi versions.

As always, happy to provide contradictory and internally inconsistent advice :).

Also, my teenage self would like to warmly thank Cosmopolitan magazine.

My father kept a stack of penthouse mags in the toilet - that combined with the fact we grew up as nudists meant his 3 teenage sons knew a) that sex was fun for both parties and b) penis's were not all 12 inches long (except for Fred-the-horse).

Of course Mum then went and spoiled it all by explaining that yes sex was fun but actually it was lot more fun with someone you loved.

This is both tangential and anecdotal, but I was told (by a christian working in the education sector) that Parachute is responsible for a larger number of unwanted conceptions than any other NZ festival.

I so want this to be true - is there any data?

People (obv not PAS readers) need to recognise that parenthood is a very responsible position and that they need to instill in their kids the values that will work best for them.

    Because I'm feeling particularly obtuse
I'd like to put in a shout out to non-parents like me who also take on the responsibility of brainwash... er instilling random values into my friends kids.

That probably explains the warning most of my friends now give to their kids when I come to visit.

I actually really hate that, when you wake up in the morning and discover you’ve become one flesh. It’s really inconvenient.

Really how would you know whether to stand up or sit down?

  • Hard News: A work of art called Chimney Book,

From Auckland it was always difficult for me to get an emotional understanding of what the earthquakes felt like. Chimney Book went some way towards that achieving that for me. It really did work at a deeply emotional level in a way I could never have imagined possible.

On the night I was left in sheer awe of Blair's talent and still am.

Looking it at it, the overall frame trim involves something like 25 separate pieces of wood (it wraps round into two rooms) and has moulding on top of the larger boards

From Jolisa's comments I guessed it might be that kind of house. That's why I, in my ridiculously overcomplicated way, suggested talking to a cabinet maker. They work with those complex layer upon layer trim designs all the time and what looks impossibly complex to normal folks is a breeze for them.

But as somebody much smarter than I suggested, transferring the marks to a traveling post is much more sensible and could easily become a neat rite of leaving for the boys.

To borrow the cabinetmaker's term you could create a story stick for each boy.
