  • Hard News: What's on David Bain's iPod?,

The UK figures: CDs are bloody expensive there too.

Only on list price...out of Amazon UK I can usually land a new release CD for less than NZ$30, and a catalogue, or reissue CD for much less. I just grabbed the first two New Order albums for $27 total for both, including postage.

No - if you're buying the album, it will (it bloody better be) still $NZ17.99, which is significantly cheaper than buying a disc at retail in most cases. It's individual tracks they're stinging us on.

oh, ok....I have to be honest, iTunes and I don't spend a lot of time in each other's company. It just seems too user unfriendly

It's still cheaper to buy a 3 or 4 track CD single than the iTunes equivalent

On the DRM pricing, as with the USA, $37 for a digital copy of a 15 track album I can buy at the Warehouse for $24, rip to my heart's content at whatever bitrate I want, peruse the sleeve, and then sell at Groovy later on.......

It all seems like a gift to Soulseek. When will they learn....

  • Hard News: Claims,

Why kill the whole family but spare David? What did he do to deserve leniency?

what about those unsolved crimes / what about those hitchhikers/ I bet he did those too

  • Hard News: Claims,

I just had a flash memory of that NME interview where Lee Scratch Perry claimed to have seen Chris Blackwell drink the blood of a freshly-killed chicken. I probably need to ease up

I'd forgotten that wonderful piece. Danny Kelly was often good, and I get whims of NME nostalgia at times. Time to dig out The Dark Stuff Again, and to, once more, try to track down that early eighties Tube goes to JA Jules Holland thing.

    This thread really confuses me.

  • Hard News: Claims,

mmmmm... I pop into this site after a day in the sun, and there are multi directional flame wars brewing and wild discussions going on about chicken f**king.

Makes the travel advisories to Bali seem rather tame and unnecessary....

  • Hard News: Mr Brown,

You have to wonder just how long those troops will stay in Basra after the end of June, and the level of behind the scenes pressure coming from Washington on that one.

Man, I thought this post was going to be about Gregory Isaacs!

Ha, that melody came to mind when I saw the title too. Killer tune.....

<quote>Clearly it's still about, and alway has been, that elusive hit single, or key track,</quote.

or, to be clear, that unstintingly supportive live base you've built up over years of relentless gigging...which is why bands like Rush (god save us all) can still get top ten albums in the USA in 2007

Myspace has, essentially become so overcrowded with wannabe acts that it's almost worthless as a tool.

Last year 75,000 albums were released...these figures are fascinating

One-third, or 25,000, were digital-only releases, and 95% of those digital-only albums sold fewer than 100 units. The 2,900 digital-only albums released by the four majors accounted for 40% of digital sales.

    and

    • Less than 90 titles accounted for 40% of 2006 new release sales. About 1,000 albums made up 80% of all new release sales. Three-fourth of all new release titles sold fewer than 100 units.

There is a powerpoint link there worth viewing if you have the time.

Clearly it's still about, and alway has been, that elusive hit single, or key track, to pull yourself out of the crowded morass at the end of the long tail. Nobody notices anything or anybody on MyFox regardless of what bot you pay to increase your numbers.
