Both TV One and Three seemed very muted on this tonight. Key critisising Cunliffe for not being positive being the gist of TV One and Cam Slater complaining of Death Threats the headline on Three. All about the reaction rather than the actual substance of the allegations themselves. A good result for National I would have thought. Is there any hope Sunday papers might.take a different perspective tomorrow?

I am finding now in conversations, usually with work colleagues, even more so than normal, if it is political and there is a person defending National, I just have to get up.and leave otherwise I WILL get too wound up and probably end up saying something they will find offensive. I mean how can people just let the country crash and burn like this? How does this happen? Don't we have movies showing us what is good and bad?Another poll with National way ahead and I am just beyond despair. I feel like completely disengaging because it all seems so hopeless.

Yes. Thanks. It does just seem a shame because there seems to be so many empty spaces around so many NZ towns - sad failed businesses and the like- that could be put to a good cause.

Old Flying Nunsters spent all their spare money on records and beer. Young hipsters are spending it at online furniture stores and hairdressers. In a small town , surely rents would be very reasonable so what are the basic start up costs to get something up and running? I guess you would need a PA at the very least as a significant cost - I guess I HAVE to read that book.

I agree the story is small cheese. It has seemed to Me that for some time many of the prominent political 'presenters' or 'analysts' (Garner, Gower, Hosking, Espiner) all operate, more or less, with an obvious slant. These guys have the most significant power in shaping the political landscape I would have thought, not this guy. Maybe I am wrong. The way Key and National have been able to dominate and control the news cycle so far this year leaves me with an ominous feeling for later.

There seems to be some weird undercurrent to this discussion about The Fall. I don't really understand but for the official record let it be known: Lou Reed is great Mark e Smith is greater.

I agree with all this stuff defending Lorde - it is absurd and laughable how the Americans don't seem to get the context of this situation - there is obviously a lot of angst about the system over there. The anemic state of the charts, and radio, and what is popular in USA reflects something thats for sure - I don't know if I am qualified to make a guess what that might be but it sure as hell seems pretty ridiculous to lay any issues at the feet of 16 year old girl from the North Shore of Auckland.
With respect Craig - this song - 99 Problems was from a much earlier album than the one Lorde claims to be directly influenced by and quoting a few lines out of context to make some point about what a dick Jay Z is, does not really seem fair to me. The song, as I understand it, is about racial profiling in USA - about not wanting to be pushed around by a system predicated on making racist judgements. I think Jay Z has been pretty weak for a few years now but he is worthy of a little more attention than scrolling through a few of his lyrics to find something to fit your negative view of him.

Incredible reading of the Royals lyrics by some - this article one much more blatant.

Lorde is deep in the middle of the cultural whirlpool now isn't she?

Probably not the done thing but there is a very interesting, smart discussion going on here about Lorde.

Many people seem unhappy with the lyric to Royals - thinking it specifically attacks hip hop - lumping it in with Macklemore et al.
