  • Hard News: Connecting the Box,

Huh, those amazon mp3s sure don't work anymore!

I also use and happily recommend
    7digital
a UK store which sells MP3s. They have about as big a range as Amazon.
They would be a bit more expensive though; usually 99p per track which is more expensive than US$0.99
    They take paypal too.

Playlouder is supposed to be good too, though I haven't used it yet.

    Bevan.

  • John Banks on Hairy Lesbians,

I'm disappointed. I thought these were going to be actual recordings of John Banks gaffes!

  • Speaker: Mixing it up, with stats like,

Thriller used to refer to a horror movie, instead of a suspenseful movie (e.g. spy story).
You might be thrilled by a horror film, but that doesn't make it a thriller.

  • Hard News: Geeky Thursday again,

With all the talk of last.fm I thought, let's create a group for Public Address readers.

last.fm is a website that records what you listen to on your computer (and also supports iPods).

It then compiles this all into charts so you can see what you and your friends listen to. The social side of it compares what you listen to other people with similar tastes, so you can get recommendations.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't record anything else nefarious about you.

    The group is
    Public Address System

Once we have more than 10 members, aggregated charts are generated for the group.
Please join up, we need more than three members for it to stay alive!

(PS I don't work there, I just like it!)

    Bevan.

  • Hard News: Geeky Thursday again,

Hmm, there is already a podcast called Public Address on iTunes which looks completely unrelated ...

  • Hard News: Geeky Thursday again,

I'm not sure the Apple announcements were that much to get excited about.

Yeah, I'd love a bigger iPod, but the Classic doesn't have any extra features from the 5G.
Although the touch screen looks cool, I'm glad the click wheel is still there as an option. It will use less battery power.
Why don't they bring out one with a radio?
I know you're all thinking radio is crap, but it would be nice to tune in for the news and weather at the least.

I know you can buy one as an accessory, but it's such a basic feature, it should be there.

And if the iTouch was meant to be an iPhone without the phone, then where's the camera?

And Russell, if you're such an Apple fanboy, how come Public Address radio isn't available as a Podcast in iTunes yet?
It would be nice to have the podcasts automatically downloaded and synced to the iPod.
That said, I'm grateful to have them at all!

  • Hard News: KGB yeah!,

Looking forward to the big event on Thursday ... the last few times I've been looking around for somewhere to pay my koha - I think this time I'll just shove some cash into Russell's hand!

Finally got my LEDS album from Smoke CDs - it's good stuff alright.

Did any of you football fans see the Wellington Phoenix play Melbourne on Sunday?
Fantastic game, great atmosphere at the ground, loads of singing. It's good to have something more exciting and passionate than rugby in the country.

  • 180 Seconds with Craig Ranapia: Private…,

How about calling it 'three minutes'? - much easier to get your tongue around than '180 seconds'

Sure, Aussies are hilarious. You probably haven't spent much time there.
They have all those crazy metaphors like 'drier than a dead dingo's donger'. People on the street are much readier to have a laugh than here in NZ.

Their movies and TV shows are funnier than ours.
I don't think a Kiwi could host Rove.

And our politicians would never say something like

Alexander Downer was asked this morning by Sean Plunket what he thought about the handful of protesters outside the Gnat’s conference.

“Well they are from the Socialist Alliance. These people are losers, you know. They lost the Soviet Union and they lost the Cold war. Yes I thought about them. It was raining and I thought the harder it rains the wetter they’ll get.”

Read this and note the Aussie reaction at the bottom compared to all the serious NZ ones:

    Convinced yet?

I'm not saying that makes NZ a worse country to live in though.

am i totally missing the joke / point?

If you have to ask why it's funny, then you are missing the point.
Humour never works after it's been explained.
And if you analyze it, that's going to kill all the fun.

Make the joke, offend people (optional), audience laughs.
    Simple as that!

    Here's a thought:
Australians are much funnier than we are.
Why do we take ourselves so seriously?
Life's more fun if you laugh at everything you possibly can.
