Hi - long-time listener, first-time caller here....... them's certainly harsh words from Mr Ralston. I've slowly morphed from a bFM to National Programme regular, and enjoy the wide variety of content, presenter style etc because of the excellent balance of news, commentary, specialist programmes on spirituality, disability issues, politics, environment and science. There is also a great balance between the very experienced presenters and journo's with decades of experience, and breathlessly excited kids fresh out of polytech.
Checkpoint with Mary Wilson is increasingly irritating. Her interrogative tone of voice reminds me too much of my mother telling off my father. I just don't need it on my commute home.
Too right - when I'm driving home unwinding from a shit day in the office, I want an informed presentation on the day's news, not listen to more shit being ladelled out to Mary's current victim, be they politician, Police District Commander, Fonterra CEO or whoever.....
My favourite time to listen in is the real Geriatric Hour - Sunday evening with Sounds Historical , followed by the lovely Wayne Mowat and a barrel-full of golden oldies. Now that is vintage wireless....

… the real blame for Mr Singh's death lies with whoever cold-bloodedly shot him, not with the police. Focusing on what the police did is a distraction, the kind of distraction we go in for in this country, as if the police have to not only do their job, but compensate for the harm done....
Isn't that the Kiwi way of thinking? We're all entitled to compensation, especially if it's from a big, easy target like the gummint. They're responsible for ensuring I continue to have a comfortable easy life, regardless of what is happening overseas to petrol and food prices, interest rates etc, and for paying me heaps if anything goes wrong. If the harm that occurs to me is by someone who has been involved in any way with any government department or social agency ever it's really their fault.
Big sigh. -
He also charges corporates for "advice".
When I was working at a certain government-owned corporation that specialises in housing people, Methcon were called in to give seminars on recognising the manufacture and use of P... that being an increasing problem amongst tenants and hazard for the staff.

As a politician who spends an inordinate amount of time with other pollies, I'd have to agree with a lot of the comments above..... although there are also some astonishingly brilliant minds in the corridors of power too... hopefully they balance one another out!!
And as a very minor local body politician I'd like to express discomfort at the incredible amount of 'lobbying' I get from Falun Gong, inviting me to all their events and shows..... they claim to not be political, yet spend an incredible amount of time, energy and money lobbying politicians..... strange!!

"The storm will hurl the midnight fears,
and sweep lost millions to their doom.""Bob usually gives a huge guffaw of laughter when he hears that last line -- a response which, I fear, is already not a good sign.
I suspect the angelic-faced child is imagining the millions he will be awarded when he sues his dreadful father for defamation of character. Clearly no-one who looks so sweet could be guilty of the dreadful acts you claim. Ditto for your lovely son Julie Fairey - shame on you both!!

Just kidding. I understand you're saying a guy drives to the cabinets each day in a ferrari, gets everyone's email out & walks it the last mile or so to your place.
I reckon, when he gets to the cabinet, he should phone me up and read my email out to me.
Cause all that walking, that's gotta be tiring, and you gotta use the new technology that's available.
He cld, like, txt it 2 u, dat wld be fstr!

I used to have regular dealings with the mental health system through my previous employer - and it was usually an intensely frustrating and convoluted exercise. So much emphasis is placed on the consumer having to agree that they need help before it could be provided, and I saw so many occasions where family, partners, neighbours or workmates would be concerned about someone's obvious deteriorating health and unusual behaviour, but unitl that person recognised it themselves, the clinicians would not act.
There seems to be a lot of lip-service paid to using a 'holistic' approach to mental health, and recgnising the importance of whanau, community, peer support and so forth to assist in maintaining someone's mental well being, but the ability of those other parties to actually intervene is severely limited.

Hmmmmm, I skim-read the post, saw Ian Wishart and Colombians and immediately his headlines popped up in my head;
