  • Hard News: The song is not the same,

Sad news about Ron Asheton...absolutely one of the most unappreciated/under rated guitarists of all time.

That being said, he sure packed a few shenanigans into his 60 years...

  • Hard News: From soundbite to policy,

About as depressing as stupid people running the line that you're not a "real" Government because your support isn't over some arbitrary -- and remarkably mobile -- line. Sorry, Rogan, but you want to get your bitch on, I'm quite happy to repay the discourtesy.

Chill out Craig, it's Friday afternoon! Do you need a hug?

I wasn't commenting on National's lack of mandate (they're the Government, get over it), I was commenting on the overuse of that as a justification for the current Parliamentary shenanigans.

I do find it humourous though, that your bitchings are apparently always welcome, but others (even in jest) are not...

  • Hard News: From soundbite to policy,

I was having a discussion with a friend last night, about the whole urgency thing...

Being a National supporter, his stock response to any question about motivations/reasons etc was 'They've got the mandate, the country voted for them'.

Even when I pointed out only some of the country voted for National, and what they're doing a flat out assault on Parlimentary & Democratic processes, he'd reply 'They've got the mandate'.

This got rather tedious, so I reverted to hassling him about not knowing what 'mandate' means...turns out he didn't! If there's anything more depressing than a National supporter, it's a stupid National supporter...

  • Hard News: Congratulations, Mr Key,

    Re: Voter Turnout
Really unscientific, but a quick poll of people my age (mid 20's: co-workers, family, friends) over the weekend showed me that A LOT of people my age didn't vote...most of them seem fairly well informed, and their comments were based around not liking any of the parties enough to vote for them, rather than general apathy.

And I know of a fair number of people who aren't even enrolled...whoops.

  • Hard News: Punk'd?,

Thanks Graeme, wasn't a question with any point, had just been wondering because I knew it would be a difficult threshold to establish...

  • Hard News: Punk'd?,

Off thread but still election-related: this there a minimum voter turn out required for a general election to be binding?

  • Hard News: The odds, and the simply odd,

My flatmates & I had exactly the same reaction to the National ad...'why is he in a car, and who's driving?'. I also found the kids choir thing a little...creepy. Who hangs around a kids choir practice grinning like some social inept?

Oh riiiiiight, the guy who's probably going to be our next Prime Minister. Phew.

  • Hard News: Have you met thingy?,

I never forget a face, but am terrible with names...and I'm also a member of the 'remember every useless movie/music related fact/person/name' club. Weird.

And the name-shame is even worse because most people I meet remember my name...it being a little unusual and all.

  • Hard News: The joke that went too far,

Reason why I love PAS # 76 - only here would you get a digression from political intrigue/defamation etc to...coffee grinders!
