Hey, I'm as up for discussing the creation of meaning as the next guy.
Does that mean we're just skipping past the meaning of creation, then?

I've heard more than once from other journalists that English isn't a believer on the broadband project.
I'm doubting that Mr Key will see out his term...

In the absence of a better place for it, and given the disjointed nature of the opening post, a study of online sexual predators has shot down a bunch of myths. Including that posting pictures of kids online encourages stalking. It's also very, very murky as to whether or not there's been any real increase in the risk to youngsters from being online.
Thanks for that, Matthew. It matches pretty well with my own research, and one is tempted to ask how many of those "sting" arrests would actually fall under entrapment, if rational analysis was used instead of "won't somebody think of the children?"
Doesn't mean that there's no danger but, like the calls of terrorism, it's very hard to quantify or challenge official ZOMG pronouncements, without getting tarred with the same brush.

I found a lovely piece today that ties together:
a) copyright
b) post-modernism
c) virtual reality. Please enjoy How to Handcraft an Achingly Self-Referential Virtual Commodity Fetish Object (For Fun and Profit!) !
An excerpt:
In this easy-to-follow seven-step Instructable, you will learn how to turn a weightless virtual commodity into a lovingly handmade piece of artisanal craftwork fated to collapse into its own meta-indexical core like the semiotic black hole it is. This project requires you to handle sharp implements, fast-bonding adhesives, and volatile distinctions between the real and the symbolic. It should not be attempted without professional legal guidance and a basic understanding of social-constructionist theories of reality.

You've been a secondary school teacher, haven't you?

Nah, Del's got a sense of humour. Garrett's idea of a fun time would be a guided tour of Gitmo.

oddly enough, not even the most clever clogs of journos is a card carrying mastermind on every subject they're tossed at.
I'd be happier if they did a little more research to find out, rather than parroting the talking points in the press release.

Garrett, on the other hand, wouldn't look out of place in an Orwell novel.
Is it just me that sees a staggering resemblance to this man?
