If we do something we might win the World Cup.
Change the rules so only teams wearing black are allowed to win?
-
1. I’ll keep banging the Jake White drum until I see a logical reason why it can’t be him. BTW, look at how the England football team are going at the moment.
Or if we want an outsider with World Cup winning credentials, Sir Clive Woodward? Okay, just kidding.
Is Jake White even available? Who is he coaching right now?
2. OK, so the lineout isn’t totally the coaches’ fault, although remember they also select. But it’s one of the more glaring pieces of evidence of the fact that this side is going backwards. 6 years is a long time.
We could offer Victor Matfield a lot of money to retire and become a lineout consultant.
Short of that, I don't see an easy fix.

How can you have those two statements in the same post?
Because:
1. who else is there to take their place?
2. why assume it's always the fault of the coaches? Couldn't it be because we don't seem in this country to produce good lineout forwards? The ABs coaches can't be blamed for the dearth of lineout talent coming through the ranks.
I don't know the answer to the lineout problem. But sacking the coaches probably isn't it.

Also, clearly the Donald/Carter combination didn't work.
But be fair to Donald: he was out of position, playing against the best team in the world.

We will continue to lose big games until we fix our lineout.
Thorne is a good player, but a lineout jumper he is not. If I were Henry I'd pick some young locks for the NH tour, and leave the old guy at home
The depressing thing about Saturday is that we played so badly and still lost by only three. We were kings of the breakdown, and even started to disrupt the opposition throw-ins in the second half. But if you can't win your own lineouts you don't deserve to win.
There's really no point calling for Henry and Co to be sacked. The only positive from all this is that being a great team between World Cups has never helped us win the thing.
The Read thing: I cringed at the time. He was lucky just to get a penalty. It was a cheap shot.

If it is to regain power, Labour needs to move away from the perception in the media and among the general public that they stand for "nanny-statism" and social engineering.
That perception is a false one, and most of us appreciate that. But it exists nevertheless, and nobody on the Left appears capable of changing that perception.
It makes no sense for the main opposition party at a time of recession to be focusing on anything other than economic issues, unless it wishes to remain in opposition. The Nats have hardly covered themselves in glory, yet the polls continue to be hostile to Labour. It's a perception thing, and if Labour are to win in 2011 they need to change it.
Their only chance in 2011 is to focus on issues that most people can understand: jobs, tax, the economy. They should avoid being distracted by other matters.
So I understand where Goff is trying to move the party.
I also understand why that may be unpalatable to many. Maybe victory in 2011 shouldn't be at any cost?

the POUM militia...the communists purged them towards the end of the war
Oh, great. Thanks for, like, totally spoiling the ending for me. Wanna put a spoiler warning on that next time? :)
Don't worry, Rich. In the film version the fascists get their come-uppance and the POUM leader gets the girl.

I thought the car seats were courtesy of the dreaded liquor licensing trust? Or does the council pony up as well?
'Tis just the Trust as far as I know, and it runs the scheme through Plunket.
I think you pay a nominal amount - $20 or something. We have two. They're not bad, and they live in the spare car. The main car has top of the line seats (we skimped on some things, but not on car seats)
We also got free first aid kits through the Trust. Moving to a "dry area" wasn't initially on my list of "things to do before I die", but I think the Trust does great work and I support its continued existence.
We have a Mountain Buggy but got a Phil & Teds double last year when we had our youngest. We've just sold the Phil & Teds. We are still very happy with the Mountain Buggy and use it all the time. It turns on a dime and is rugged.

I'm concerned that this man goes by the name Whaleoil and uses a gravatar of a dolphin.
Ah, so we've got him under the Fair Trading Act too...
-
So there's no companies equivalent of cybersquatting with someone's name?
No. But once you start trading using the name you can get yourself embroiled in potential trade mark issues.
But you don't, and you won't, right?
No. I have better things to do with my time and money.
