Hard News: About Arie, in reply to
That, frankly, is a despicable misrepresentation and trivialisation. If Labour does not stand up for habeus corpus, then we all are pawns in their game of power-seeking.
Then again, there is probably going to be plenty of opportunity for discussion of how the previous Labour Government (like their British counterpart) where quite happy to subject civil liberties to the death of a thousand cuts. (Anyone anyone thinking of crying "Craig-Bot" really needs to stop. Now.)

First time I’ve seen the statement – but if accurately transcribed, isn’t “thought” a little different than actually saying it out loud to the guy he was visiting?
Yes, but no – it’s not what I really want running through the mind of a man who 1) would really really like to be Prime Minister by Christmas, and, 2) whose own record as a civil libertarian while Minister of Police wasn’t exactly pristine. It's a lovely day in Wellington, can I get depressed later?

BTW, staying at friends on the Petone Esplanade, and there is much non-silliness. Might put off the ramble along the beach for a few hours, but not running for the hills either.

Oh dear - Japanese rescue workers in Christchurch being super staunch and awesome on Three News. Think I'm going to man-cry a little.

Two blocks of soap and a waste paper basket made for a very functional experience.
It was nice having proper soap. The hotel was not so generous.

Just a (perhaps egregiously snarky, granted) reference that you couldn't form a quorate National Party branch from PAS. :) And there's nothing wrong with that, but I do have to wonder whether Helen would be have the benefit of the doubt extended a little further.
Might want to check out my PAR piece this Sunday -- where I posit that the media coverage has been OTT, but Brownlee could learn a thing or two from a visit to Nakasaki's Urukami neighbourhood.
Anyway, I've got to unplug the laptop and finish packing for the Great Blend -- and will be spending the next week in Wellington. Since social convention frowns on house guests locking themselves in the spare bedroom and blowing their host's broadband cap, my internet time will be spotty and brief. :)

Now you’re touching on weaknesses in identity politics..
Don't say that, or Chris Trotter will appear in a puff of sulphur. :)

But Aspie still makes me think of some kind of snake,
If Jimmy (who's just lovely Jimmy) shows up to film soc and tried to bite anyone in the tit, I will rat him out in a heartbeat. Promise.

more understandable coming from Aussie cops because we generally expect Kiwi cops to not behave like gang-land enforcers.
Perhaps I need to cultivate a more *cough* robust class of Australian, but the ones I know expect their police officers to behave better than a league player on date night too. And dare I say it. most of them go their entire careers without being persons of interest to a commission of inquiry into corruption.

if we put Craig in the front we can probably take ’em.
Oh, lovely. Always the designated human shield, never the gore-soaked Viking warlord...
