My mind’s in the gutter.
Mine must be in the sewer. I read hover as hoover.

Not mislaid, lost. Permanently. Long ago.
Lost in the way that a dog loses its bones sometimes. And roughly the same level of amusing when they go to bury a fresh one in the same place and then get all confused about what to do when they find the old one.
Admittedly, I've done the same thing when hiding my stash.

The two most useless things in my kitchen: Coffee tamper (I just use the back of the teaspoon that I'm ladling the coffee in with), and wok (electric stove, admittedly many would argue that it's the stove that is useless)

As far as gadgets go it’s hard to get simpler than a bit of wood
Nothing beats a good piece 'a hickory.

a decent fucking egg beater!
My folks have one of those, and it is indeed the Bomb. I haven’t needed any kind of blender since the whiz-stick, though, with multiple attachments. It takes up less space than a hand beater. I love how rinsing takes about 2 seconds, just stick it in water and whiz it.

so the time it boils in a kettle? Not good enough.
I was talking about a whistling kettle, as in a stove top one that you can let whistle as long as you like, for use on camp cooker/BBQ etc. But yes, even a big one is only going to make a few liters.

Which one of these does it look like?
The one on the left. Real 70s look. I expect new ones are actually more fully featured, probably use less power. But it works just fine, and the inner is also a large oven safe casserole pot.
ETA: Snap, Islander.

I get a little misty using my grandmother's original Ralta Crock Pot, with the fawn outer and Temuka pottery inner. It gets used most weeks.
Enormous stock-pots are essential. They're for boiling water after earthquakes.
Boiling drinking water, right? So you boil it then leave it to cool in the pot, then decant into bottles? I'm imagining they're not better than a whistling kettle if all you're after is a few cups of boiled water.

Legal Beagle: Council Elections: STV Q&A, in reply to
I’d prefer to just be able to vote Green, get (if we succeed) a Green/Labour council that implements a policy programme associated with those parties.
You can do that under STV. If Greenness is your bag, you rank the candidates on that criterion. Indeed, you can rank within the Green candidates themselves, ordering on your particular brand of Green. Maybe you're about public transport far more than you are worried about the rights of trees.

If that were true, then why are they not called Labour and National now?
