  • Hard News: Granny for Sale,

Last Saturday the Herald posted this online. It was an explanation by Eugene Bingham of the Key questions. It ended rather abruptly I thought, but by Sunday it was no longer available on the Election 08 menu online.

Doesn't Dunnes Fundraising knowledge create a problem regarding his distance from influence?

  • Cracker: All In,

Makes our old paper system pretty reliable. When counting up we would go to enormous lengths to check the where-abouts that last ballot had got to. Having officiated in 13 elections I can think of not one error. We are well served.
Though I did give a special vote to a 94year old women whose Husband Tom had died the year before. Tom "voted" but by making the notes in the appropriate form this dear old lady went away happy, and no corrupt vote was cast.

  • Hard News: Punk'd?,

Paul said:I don't know that Key's dodgy, but he seems pretty consistently (conveniently?) ignorant of the stuff going on around him.
My point elsewhere on this point is that because John talks in imprecise terms, is forgetful of detail, and does the three point turn to avoid difficult questions, cause doubts to form. It is not surprising that some people doubt him as a future PM.
"Mr President umm. I am sure that we um decided to join you in that war you started in 2005 but I can't quite remember what umm. Now lets take a step back and talk about um how to make pancakes. Hey Come back Mr um Pres..."
Good post from Nicky Hager on Pundit:

Russell Are you saying that this may not be the Labour Party story so much as some-one else. Would Labour drop mail off in letter boxes? Catherine remarked as an aside when talking to Key that "actually its a Herald story."

  • Hard News: Punk'd?,

This morning Catherine did a good interview with John Key on Nine to Noon. She asked good questions but Johns answers were wordy and rather unhelpful to me. I was left with only a hazy idea of what we would have with a change of Govt. John has repeatedly blamed Labour for the "smear" but the funny thing is that I have read or heard very little from Labour. The bulk of the running has been John Key and the Herald. All that Helen has said is that there is every right for questions to be asked of our leaders.

Craig: I for one enjoy your wit and imagery and read it in many forums. (I do not think I ever talked about a strategic vote for me as in our Electorate there is not much chance of change. I suppose it could be implied.) Am great believer in the freedom of speech too but I can be annoyed at bigotry, which is surely prejudice against a person or party, with no greyness allowed. Your comments re Kiwibank, Reserve Bank etc is clearly stated by Peters, but are similar plans possible from other more vaguely worded Parties. Privatization for example?

  • Cracker: All In,

I wonder if Craig ever sees anything at all in shades of Grey? It is a very easy place to be black and white, good and evil, beautiful and ugly. However I have not heard Sofie say she would vote NZF, nor I, but I resent Craig, Bill Ralston, Hooten screaming at any person who has a different perspective. I resent the power of the Media being used to pander to the black and whiters.

"at the casino in melbourne they had a perspex cylinder full of one million $1 coins."
I worked out that it would take 36days and nights counting continuously to get to the last coin by ones. John would feel a bit tired after counting to $50mil.

  • Cracker: All In,

I wonder how many voters are feeling a bit insulted at the 5-headed monster theme. I wonder how a minority party voter would respond to the contention that their vote is rubbish compared to a vote to say National. Oy! Even a NZF voter is entitled to his/her view.
