And also from RWP, an amazing 1981 bit of self-reporting by Chris Knox and Alec Bathgate, not long after becoming Tall Dwarfs. A bit of a must-see, this one.
Superb, keep 'em coming!

Simon's mention of Chris Malcolm made me think of other NZ 'imports' who have gone on to make a mark on the NZ music scene to varying degrees - e.g. US-born Ryan McPhun, Polish born Luke Buda of the Phoenix Foundation and German-born Stefan Wolf who penned 'I Could Hit the Ceiling' b/w '(Day Off in) Akaroa as Stiff Herbert, one of Flying Nun's more curious releases (FN059) - a 7" copy of which I still have!
Stefan Wolf I note is still active but relatively low key, based on the Kapiti Coast. He released an EP Das Klischee (the Cliché) in 2011.
I'm interested too in other NZ album/EP/songs where the artist has opted for a foreign language title (and the reasons for doing so). Bill Direen had a German thing going too years ago with the 'Schwimmen in der See' EP. As did Ladi 6 recently with the track 'Köln'. Oh yes, just remembered the Headless Chickens and their frequent 'pollo' references!

One could get lost for many an hour on a rainy day or indeed a sunny day. Great to see Bill Direen and the Gordons there already. Plenty of old photos I've never seen too.Looking forward to seeing pages on e.g. Phoenix Foundation, Darcy Clay, and the Victor Dimisch Band. Well done to everyone involved - what a fabulous site and resource,

OnPoint: What Andrew Geddis Said, But…, in reply to
The Council Plan was thrown out by CERA, who produced their own Plan
And as No Right Turn blogs today, this is Not Acceptable.
What gets built in Christchurch should be up to the people of Christchurch, not dictated by a Minister in Wellington. Sadly National still doesn't seem to understand this fundamental concept of democracy.
Christchurch is becoming and increasingly miserable place to live. Democracy...Nope.

I dig that Ronnie van Hout designed flying saucer cover of the Pin Group's Go To Town 12" EP and later on the remastered CD Ambivalence. Worth noting Ronnie van Hout's posting of live footage of the Pin Group ca 1981 - two songs, Ambivalence and Coat squeezed bookended by footage of band associates.

Politics is so weird I wouldn’t be surprised if Kim Dotcom is one day elected mayor
Of course Arnie the Governator took over California for two terms. So it's not beyond the realm of possibility of another Teutonic leader in an Anglo land. Kim Dotcom's pretty smart and he knows how to play the politicians at their own game. He's also a bit smarter than Arnie. I don't believe has declared any intent politically and it's far too early for 2013 anyway with the extradition, etc business to sort out.

Hard News: Dressing for the Road, in reply to
Then there’s the one guy who likes to literally go against the flow & ride the opposite direction in the cycle lane (so he’s facing the oncoming cars & bikes). But he’s a special case.
Gosh, that could be me! I live close to Tennyson St. I use short stretches at least, sometimes taking the 'wrong way' for convenience to go the few metres to get to the nearest short-cut side street rather than cross the road and swing back.
I recall cycling in places like Salzburg and Vienna that cyclists can ride in either direction on either side in the bike lanes. And pedestrians tend to get tersely addressed if they stray into the bike lanes!
There's also a better example of an off-road bike lane in Chch, the stretch linking Boys' High and Girls' High along Matai St (which then links - not so well - to Hagley Park.) The cycle lanes (both directions, same side) are nicely separated from parked cars by a grass verge.

With the march intro (and outro), I was thinking 'Holidays in the Sun' - better than I imagined! I'll check out Penny Lane Records for the 7".

I won't be but I will likely see him Sunday evening at the Brewery in Chch. Agree, there's something about going into charity shops and delving through their record piles - throuble is getting through all the Nana Mouskouri, Val Doonican, James Last, etc to find that hidden gold!
