Circularity within the round
Well, I only had to read the first couple of paragraphs of that Dickey argument to disagree with the writer, BondBloke (sounds like a guy who has fantasies about James Bond being Gay if you ask me... but you didn't) He claims that one of the failures of Dickey's theory is...(iii) its failure to distinguish good from bad art;
And that, in itself, is a fail. His example of found art fails to address the juxtaposition and surrealist part of the equation and relies, instead, on the work done in transporting found art to the gallery as its defining quality.
Poppycock!!!! -
Kindergarten, yes; St Kevin's is Roman.
When were the Romans here, did I miss something?.

One could produce a very realistic imitation of an object - something like a model car, say - without producing a work of art.
Well that depends on what? If the model of the car a realistic rendition of an existing design then it is just that, a model but if that rendition is a generic form of a car then it is an expression. I think we may be expressing the difference between Arts and Crafts and that... is a whole kettle of fish with a can of worms... on toast.
Architecturally speaking, St Kevin's Arcade and the Myers Park buildings, especially the Kindergarten, is a great New Zealand example of Arts and Crafts thinking in design. Don't you think?. -
But as sculpture, they are rubbish: more GI Joe than Giacometti.
Oh go on Paul, why don't you say what you really mean?
Weta has some excellent technicians, I have worked with a few of them in the past. Artists?. Well, I guess that is the question we have been discussing wasn't it?. As you said upthreadArtists are identified by the Art World by the fact of their making expressive pieces of work, and the purpose of those works being expression.
Define expression. Is it not also expression if a technician works from a rough idea working for a committee to say what that committee wants to express?. For instance, can Architecture be Art?

Speaking of Scotch. We just got some miniatures of Laphroiag sent over from Islay, bastards at MAF charged us $22 for opening one of the four envelopes... it had Sacha's name on it whooooooo, just because he is not paranoid it don't mean they're not out to get him.
ohhh, I bet he doesnt do email orders?
That was a hint?... it's on its way, apparently.
;-)p.s.
I had to be fingerprinted and cavity searched just to get in my last hoard of Scotch Bonnets...
Now that would really make the eyes water...

And, whine, where do we get the ingredients aside from the paneer?
The place formerly known as The Khyber Spice Invader, in Sandringhamstan. It is owned by a wonderful man who always say's "Thank you, please come again" Honest.

Saag Paneer Recipe courtesy Tyler Florence.
And lots of PE
(i jest, of course)
I admit I didn't make my own ghee but I did do the spices while cooking the spinach and onions while the rice was going through the absorption method of cooking rice.
I had to sign an explosives document when buying the chillies.
;-) -
I've just cooked a Saag Paneer between posts. Is that a record?.

Addendumdedum
The PE in Panadol Cold & Flu Relief PE stands for Pseudo Ephedrine which, apparently, is used for making Pea Soup or something. -
