I would approach the villages involved to see if they would want an investigation of possible war crimes or rather some form of reconcilation process.
An investigation would take time and money with possibly no satisfactory outcome.

It was the Reconstruction Team that had been attacked a number of times with one of their personnel killed.
It wouldn't have made any sense to allow that risk to continue. There's no way one would expect people to be building infrastructure if they weren't provided with adequate protection.
Characterising that as revenge seems to be a bit of a judgement call.
Not that that justifies what took place just that some action against those attacking the PRT was called for.

I just find the phrase other people's wars a bit anachronistic.
We live in an interconnected world, we are a member of the international community via the UN and other arrangements, we have people living in NZ from all parts of the world.
We can choose to become involved or not but it's a choice we have to make. Not becoming involved doesn't necessarily absolve us of moral responsibility. And determining just who is "other" might not be straight foward.

Does "other people's war" mean no one in NZ cares or has any involvement?

I think Danyl seriously underestimates the positive contribution of the NZ PRT to the Bamyan Province.
It’s unlike there would be a woman governor now or as much infrastructure if we hadn’t been there.
I’m not sure what’s meant by “other people’s war”.

I've noticed this cluster of opinions:
* It's not that I support Trump but Hillary Clinton is a warmonger.
* It's not that I support Assad but there's no moderate opposition.
* It's not that I support Putin but he shouldn't be provoked.
Not sure what motivates the pretense. In the US some of that is you can earn money in the pundit world - being an arsehol gets attention. But there's a growing authoritarian voice out there on the internet that sees advantage in hiding behind the It's Not That... facade. And certain pundits are feeding that for their own reasons.

Hard News: The next four years, in reply to
I'm parodying not very subtly the disturbing intent-driven phenomenon of well financed people claiming to be against Trump and Putin but who campaigned against Hillary Clinton and who continue to attack people who are actually opposing Trump and Putin.

A Trump appointee lying about contacts with Russia is not evidence that the Trump admin has had clandestine contact with Putin.
It is evidence that the Deep State is trying to distract us from Chelsea Clinton's tweets advocating war against Iran.
Anway, I was right and progressives and Hillary caused Trump. ELITES SQUAWK ELITES SQUAWK

If Little wasn't being advised by Matt McCarten there might have been a chance someone else with less baggage and more progressive values could have been given this opportunity.
I'm sure they're out there.

I rather think that we (the left) have just under a year to convince all those people who hate the kind of shit that just went down in the USA…
Considering trade, defence and immigration there are other NZ parties closer to Trump than National.
