Yes I bloody well can. What a horrible abandonment of basic decency and fairness that was. Grrrrrr.
Oh, me two. Three News should be getting pimp-slapped by the BSA right about now, but I'm pretty damn sure Joseph Dunbar's whanau and friends have more important things to do.

What is a YMMV?
You "mileage may vary." Quite frankly, I think some sections of the media needed to get their egos out of the room, and get a grip on on the idea that feeding them fresh copy weren't really the number one priority. But, hell, that's an old argument without end I'd rather leave for another time and place. And, as I said, one reasonable and honourable people can disagree on.
OTOH, I should check myself and grant that Denis isn't out of line saying that the people who got it right really got it right. But when the media got it wrong (the violations of privacy and good taste, the distasteful keyboard Rambos etc.) they really really screwed the pooch.

I think this week's Media7 emerged pretty well in the circumstances.
You did better than that - didn't really agree with Denis Welch's rather rosy view of the media's treatment of Pike River, but he made his case well and it's something I think honest and honourable people can have a reasonable YMMV over.

And... pretty ferocious this from the resident Herald cartoonist.
Ouch. The irony. It burns.

The nats want the mine to start up again to generate money for the shareholders who back them ...
FFS, James, could you please slip into the same section of the multiverse as everyone else?
And perhaps you could wait until the terms of reference and makeup of the commission have been announced before you denounce the orchestrated litany of lies? (See what I did there.) I can't stop you grinding your collection of axes against the tin-foil hat, but the nice thing about PAS is we tend to test our hypotheses against data and reality-based observation. But why bother when you've obviously decided the everyone on the planet except you is a corporate scat whore...
The govt will announce it right at the height of the 'silly season'
Monday's the height of the silly season? Damn, I better get the Christmas shopping done...

I'm also disingenuous of those who take cheap shots about "green tape" to blame for the miners' deaths. Just as bad as the tabloid vultures on the scene.
As I've said, there's going to be a coronial inquiry, a Commission of Inquiry (terms of reference to be released on Monday, according to the PM), another by the Department of Labour and fuck knows what else I've missed. Think there's going to be a lot of reality-based evidence on the table to discuss in an informed and rational manner, after a decent pause, so could we just serve a round of fuckupachinos and be done with the point scoring?
Having said that, I still think Key and Goff and the rest of Parliament showed serious class rather than their arses over the last week. I bitch politicians a lot, so that's worth repeating.
Briefly tuned in to hear Laws doing a huuuuuge passive-aggressive number on that one: It's not him, you see: but lots of other people are saying to him it's the greenies' fault ...
I've stood in cowpats with a lower bullshit content than that creature.

You're right to a certain extent -- and we're going to get a coronial inquest and the inquiry whose terms of reference are going to be released on Monday that should pose all those questions in exhaustive and exhausting detail. I just didn't see WTF was going to be achieved by Mary Wilson haranguing exhausted, distressed people who weren't buying into the narrative she was pushing.

We went out tonight, and the soundtrack to Wim Wenders' Faraway, So Close was in the car stereo. U2's 'Stay' came on, and if they played that tomorrow night I'd be sobbing like a giant man-baby.
And if you look, you look through me
And if you talk it’s not to me
And when I touch you, you don’t feel a thingIf I could stay.. then the night would give you up
Stay, and the day would keep it’s trust
Stay, and the night would be enoughFaraway, so close
Up with the static and the radio waves
With satellite television
You can go anywhere
Miami, New Orleans, London, Belfast and BerlinAnd if you listen I can’t call
And if you jump, you just might fall
And if you shout I’ll only hear youIf I could stay.. then the night would give you up
Stay then the day would keep it’s trust
Stay with the demons you drown
Stay with the spirit I found
Stay and the night would be enough -

Honestly, I hope none of them -- they're that vile. But knowing the kind of pressure that goes on to get sin-sational scoop in situations like this, I expect to be very disappointed indeed.

Like Russell, I'm hoping there's one or two people at Three News who won't sleep well tonight.
Fired. Surely?
That should be a slam dunk upheld complaint to the Press Council/BSA, while the hack concerned is not only fired but blacklisted from any media outlet with any pretentions towards respectibility. What. The. Fuckity-Fuck. doesn't even begin to articulate what an epic #ethicalfail that allegation is, if true.
ETA: Could Mary Wilson please shut the fuck up? Nobody is buying into the blame-game narrative she's trying to set up, and she's now moving beyond tiresome and irritating into offensive twatcockery.
