I'm sure that at the launch that I saw Mr Hooten very enthusiastically clapping the PM's speech, which is further evidence - if needed - that there was a strange vibe in the air.
The Maradona doco was great, some of the footage of he and the entire crowd weeping at his final game in Argentina was stirring stuff, and the archive footage of his play proved he was operating at a completely different level to his peers. Good thing he only had one foot.
And if there was ever any curiosity as to why he became a junkie, the fact he was pumped full of steroids and vitamins as a pre-teenager to help him grow is a good place to start. Treated like a horse from day one. Poor buggar.

I've gotta say, being a football tragic, I'm really looking forward to the Maradona doco tonight.
I'm assuming and hoping its going to be an entertaining story of the rise and fall and rise of a short squat footballing genius - who now apparently has the number one talk-show in Argentina.

I'm no expert on the full machinations, but my understanding is that, as attractive as Carlaw Park is - and Richard Simpson makes a good case - its all simply too late. The land has been sold, and the development plans for retirement village and apartments is already well underway.
The cost of buying out the developers makes the option less appealing.
But I could be wrong.

I'm with Jeremy, hard to go past the Fits 'Down in Splendour'.
Or REM 'Fall on Me"
Or Primal Scream, 'Moving on Up' - preferably with a full Harlem Gospel choir in attendance.

Actually, looking at the Walter Stokman back catalogue, I hope that his 'Let me Have it All' doco about a search for Sly Stone makes it here. Can't beat a doco about a mad musical genius.
