  • Speaker: Bigger than us,

Unless they lose. In which case we sack the coach and belittle them for at least six months.

I think the last couple of lines in the post shows the Dropkicks do understand the irony of their position. And I also know it's only a game and the sun will rise the next morning blah, blah, blah, but how do I fight this growing anxiety. Trust Ted I guess.

  • Speaker: Like something out of Braveheart,

Seems the new rules are being trialled in the Men's B competition.

I was in the stand at the northern end of the ground, close to where Brent Ward forced the ball. It was hard to see the replays on the big screen at the other end in detail but my instinct watching it live was the ball had brushed him just before he crossed over the line. Even at half time it looked like Auckland had the wood (ha ha) on Canterbury and the subdued crowd thought so to.

There was a curtain raiser complete with gps devices on the players under the new Stellenbosch rules, that was finishing as we arrived. Will try and track down what the verdict was.

  • Speaker: Silver is (not) the new black,

Daniel Carter is being reported as saying he hasn't been able to practise with a match ball. Should we add this to the growing list of anxieties?

I'm blaming him for not informing her at some stage in the twenty odd years they were together that this eventuality may occur.

Surely you didn't mean to write that Jackie?

Can we at least concur that Tamaki is a scary so and so?

Certainly not. He is a figure of huge bombastic fun. Long may he be around to amuse us.

(i'm too new at this to attempt to link to it but someone might help a brother out?)

Andy - I just managed to make my first link and as a non techie the steam was coming out my ears by the end. Here's an explanation- I'm sure the experts do it better.

Copy and paste the text beside 'link' to the left of the 'Post a reply..' window, as below.

    [([url|link text]]

Please note I've popped an extra parenthesis in above to stop the text changing when it's posted to the site. Just ignore it.

Delete the three letters 'url' and then copy and paste the address into that space. Then delete the words 'link text' and type in the words you want (eg. Colin Espiner) into that space.

Click' Preview' to test whether it's worked or not. Good luck!

His comment about 'Christian' parties was that the folks who are in them are generally those who are imbued with a highly developed sense of righteousness. And it is this righteousness that prevents them from being able to take on board anyone else’s point of view or work with anyone else, ergo, makes them fairly useless politicians.

Most of us probably have limits to what we believe in as we are stuck in our bodies and in this historical time frame. But these fundamental types, (Christian and Muslim seem particularly susceptible) seem able to screen out vast amounts of contemporary knowledge to maintain their viewpoint of the world. This would be acceptable in the 15th century but how do you maintain it in the 21st? By what trick in your mind can you somehow here another point of view and not give it any validity?

This seemed to be the case with the recent argument about the burial of the bloke from Christchurch. His North Island whanau have adopted a view of the world that was valid when there was nothing to test it against but I don't understand how it can be defended these days with such vehemence. You might say you prefer the traditional ways for a host of reasons but how can you say in 2007 it is now the only way to proceed?

Sure does Rob! That's John Hanlon (Damn the Dam) singing right? Is this clip from Off The Edge? Playing at a suburban cinema near you every few months during the late 70's.

There was a fuss amongst the purists at the time because the skiers wore jeans, a real no no in a high alpine environment and used regular downhill bindings rather than proper ski touring kit. I worked with a woman who had seen this film as a child and decided there and there to make her living in the wild outdoors. It has a lovely naive freedom about it in the Good Bye Pork Pie, Blerta style of give it a go film making. A treasure.

In the last 20 years social change has accelerated so much that could we assume that even in 10 years time the promo efforts of today will look equally as quaint?

This is just a round about way to point out that the New York Times opinion pages are now free access. Check out Paul Krugman's graph in his opening blog.
