I simply cannot understand how he survived a Mancunian upbringing without getting his pretty face regularly smashed.
He didn't have a Mancunian upbringing. He's from Leytonstone.
I lived in Leytonstone for a year or so. Substitute it for "Mancunian" and Emma's point is still valid.

de Villiers is mad as a hatter. Which at least is entertaining.
I used to enjoy the coaching stoushes between NZ and Australia, with the Aussie coaches accusing us on a yearly basis of being cheats and thugs. Deans is just too nice and it's boring.
But de Villiiers is the real deal when it comes to explosions of the brain.
I also love the fact that this year's Tri-Nations looks like a battle between three pretty even teams.

Given ACT's love of selling off public assets, maybe the motto should be: "We have nothing to fear but (Rodney) Hide"

I find
our very existence's utter meaninglessness
to be really rather liberating and I'm sorry, Danielle, that it depresses you.
I tend to agree. Nothing would depress me more than the possibility that it was all part of a cosmic plan and that some god was behind it all. Which one? If I back the wrong horse is my soul confined to eternal damnation?
I read The God Delusion recently and found it quite liberating.

Plus we need all the space we an get on the monolith to explain consensus democracy. We might have to use the B side even (PTO).
In that case the monolith will need to be of a size that it can be seen from the Moon.

Funny, I never suspected you as being behind Whaleoil, Kiwiblog and Cactus Kate.

Don't you reckon the added dimension of pictures (John Bonham being a country squire) made Moby Dick even more boring?
At least it gave us something to watch while we wondered "when will this end?"
Moby Dick has a killer start and end. It's just a pity about the endless middle bit.
Drum solos were a hard/prog rock institution in the '70s. Dark days.
But for endless instrumental solos, yould have to go a long way before outdoing Cream.

The weirdest thing I found out about Jackson after his demise is that he had a patent for shoes that allowed him to tilt on stage.
I've posted details here.
I want me some of them shoes.

What exactly does Sky provide to people who really aren't that into sport, and find the movie channels aren't that big a selling point since the release window between cinemas and DVD collapsed? How many news channels screening wall to wall Michael Jackson necrophilly do you really need?
In my house the most watched TV channel is Playhouse Disney. The kids love it.
