It is supremely and totally possible
that's good. but then so is my being kidnapped by aliens from klingon, or some people from Emma's RPG club. but i just don't see it as very likely...
and it would also be a bloody good thing
of course it would! it would make everuthing so much easier ! all these people not understanding each other is just so silly and so unnecessary.

It's all the same to me, that's for sure. Whether it's still a common practice in a few hundred years remains to be seen.
are you are implying that everyone will be conversant in a single language in a few hundred years? can you offer any evidence to support that theory? i can't see any at all, but maybe i'm missing something...

SoM?!!?
omg, everyone hated that album when it came out (you would have been 14?) because the production was crap and their previous 12" singles had been so much better. but i thought it was ok. used to listen to it quite a bit. amphetimine logic is a good track, in an andrew eldritch sort of way. great song title though!
recommended: Alice 12", Temple of Love 12"
(SoM version of 1969 is screamingly excellent, imho)(one of my friends even bought a drum machine the same as they used on that album: DR-55)

3. No more cheap cars
We will ban second hand imports. Car owners will be compelled to spend money on cars the way they used to: on maintenance. Running good cars for longer will provide work for more tradespeople, and as if that's not reason enough, consider also that this could bring the curtain down on the boy racer sideshow. With the NZ$ having gone from about 85 or so yen last year to a current range of 45 to 48 yen to the dollar, the secondhand car market is probably very shaky already. Add the finance and employment situations into the mix and it is probably already nosediving...
but my suggestion would to be to modify your proposal by banning all used imports except for "kei cars" (minicars). These account for 33% of all passenger cars sold in Japan. Why not in NZ too?
Oh, and add a dollar to the price of petrol for good measure, but exempt motorbikes and kei cars. And use the revenue to fund public transport, cycling and pedestrian infrastructure.
so there.

Margaret Morrissey (Parents Outloud campaign group)
We are giving children the message that when things get difficult you should just stay at home and have fun.Ed Balls (schools secretary)
Claims that schools had been forced to close because of health and safety laws are nonsense. They were closed because teachers could not get into schools to open the schools and it was going to be really dangerous for some children trying to make the journeys when there weren't buses or tubes or trains available and it was very hard to drive.(excerpted from Their Views

@Sacha:
i don't totally disagree with what Greenwald says about the LA Times article (which seems to have been ripped apart by several people) but his underlying tone regarding renditions/extraordinary renditions comes across as another American saying "we can do it because we are top dog so who's going to stop us, eh?". the counter-hypothetical is most justified imho. -
Stephen Judd: i hope you are right. but i still don't completely dismiss the article cited above, yet. Hilzoy's comments are encouraging, but it doesn't look like the executive orders issued so far preclude extraordinary renditions, but aim to prevent torture resulting from them. and as for Mr. Greenwald's apparent views on justified kidnappings (a.k.a. extraordinary renditions), well, surely this is why most of the world views the US as a violent, lawless bully.
