  • Field Theory: How's that working out for…,

This promotion is at serious risk of alienating (or at least depressing) members of society who are going through a bit of a dry spell.

The place to look for it is right under the box you'd normally type a comment into. But if it's not there, it's not there.

    Attachment

That's odd - the attachment box isn't showing up in Chrome, but it is in Firefox. Though this could be a caching issue. (And I've tried logging out and in again.)

How does the upload function work? I can't see anything around here that looks like an upload area.

  • Hard News: An inspirational record, in reply to Russell Brown,

I’m also quite hung up on Tom’s great, rhythmic use of assonance in the intro to the first track, ‘Home’. It is poetry.

I've just noticed today - New Zealand vowels. It didn't even stand out at first, but then I heard the "can't", the "after". It didn't stand out because they just sound like ordinary dudes you hear around this country. They still sound like cool MCs, but ones that are happy to come from around these parts.

Hey, does this mean that cultural cringe thing is drying up? I hope so.

  • Hard News: An inspirational record,

I've been bonding with the @peace album over the last few days. It is good. It reminds me of the sort of hip hop that was coming out in the early '90s, the Native Tongue, scene, but with some acid jazz thrown in but with a bit of the thing that makes it a product of the now, not some '90s throwback. <3

Dude, change this post's headline. What you've written has nothing to do with copyright.

(And while I have my subediting pants on, it's McDonald's (only one A). Unless you were making a fictional burger joint called MacDonald's in which case that would be a whole other legal issue.)

The best way to help break the radler trademark - use it generically and use it often. "I am enjoying this refreshing glass of Cyclist radler." And use it online.

I don't like rugby, but I don't hate it either. It's just a thing that other people do.

I was in Newcastle, NSW in 2001 when the Newcastle Knights won the AFL grand final. The streets were alive with celebrating munters, yelling random shit out of their cars. I know that's league, but it gave me a taste of the worst side of team sports. But I think we'd only see that if - shudder - NZ wins the RWC.

Meanwhile, it's nice to see Courtenay Place looking a bit cleaned up, though I'm not sure about those bollards that have been erected in the middle of the footpath either side of Blair and Allen Streets.

  • Hard News: #NetHui: it's all about you, in reply to Megan Wegan,

Yesterday, I went to the supermarket. I wanted to buy stockings. The brand I wanted was on special, all varieties of it, except for the “curvaceous” range.

Here's my dilemma - I'm tall but not skinny so not only do the 'regular' range of pantyhose not fit me, but the 'curvy' size doesn't either. I've got the power combo of taller than average (generally considered better than short, yeah?) and wider than average (generally considered worse than skinny). Where does my privilege fit? I envy women who can buy tights from the supermarket!

Here's an observation about the PA System community. After a while, no matter what the original subject, all discussion threads will end up being a small group of people chatting amongst themselves.

It's like there's an initial window of on-topic discussion, but after that window has shut, you cannot talk on that subject any more. I mean, you can post, but no one will really respond because they've all naturally moved on to the in-group chat and so your post is kind of off-topic.

It's not one particular group of people, just whoever is left still active in the chat. The main downside of this is if you're offline for a day and try to join in on the original topic, it's almost impossible.

I suspect this might not be unique to Public Address, but I notice it here a lot.
