  • Hard News: New Lounge Toy Update,

    Or you could do this

Bluetooth enabled automobiles and mobile phones drive you to your ultimate wireless destination.

    From Toyota.

  • Hard News: New Lounge Toy Update,

I hope this is a typo

Mr Broad said the law could be used against those with assets worth more than $30,000.

Such people would most likely be the leaders of drug syndicates.

$30.00 ain't a lot in terms of "Assets", home contents, stereo, TV, carpets etc., plus an average car, soon add up to figures like that.
Add to that that the burden of proof falls on the accused and it looks scary.

A note on Velcro. Always put the "Fluffy" part of the Velcro on your phone, if you use the "Hookey" bit you may find it difficult to remove you phone from your pocket on occasions.

  • Hard News: New Lounge Toy Update,

one of those dirtcheap phone holders you stick to the dash should do the trick.

VELCRO, the stick on veriety, I've been using it to mount phones and Players for years. I'd like to see a cop trying to say it wasn't a "Holder".
Most phones that come with headphone/microphone combos can be easily converted to hands free but cutting off the headphones and soldering on a connector that suits you car entertainment device, you can then converse with friends and family in glorious stereo. Setting you phone to "Auto Answer" can lead to "Interesting times" when you have others in the car.
    ;-)

  • Up Front: White in Brighton,

I just despair of the city, and many of the people I know in it, who cling to this vision of Christchurch as "the English City".

    __ cringe __
For the Geographicly challenged... English Cities tend to be in England. I would also like to remind the residents of Dunedin that Scottish cities tend to be in... Scotland.
Colonialism is just so nineteenth century.

  • Up Front: White in Brighton,

Even so- I'll never go back there (for goodness'sake, they dont even have slot machines on the new pier!)

We had occasion to go to Eastbourne while in the UK and Eastbourne has a Pier, with slot machines. In fact that is almost all they had. Apparently the pier closes at the end of September, for the Winter season, but the slot machine arcade stays open, even the Fish & Chip shop closes. I also noticed that Eastbourne's pier has a management company, based in Wigan.

Wales isn't on the Union Jack,

Ah. But. Henry the Eighth was Welsh eh? so England and Wales were regarded as a single state.

The Laws in Wales Acts 1536–1543 (Welsh: Y Deddfau Uno 1535 a 1543) were a series of parliamentary measures by which the legal system of Wales was annexed to England and the norms of English administration introduced in order to create a single state and a single legal jurisdiction, which is frequently referred to as England and Wales. The Acts refer in particular to two Acts of Parliament passed in 1536 and 1543 during the reign of King Henry VIII of England, who came from the Welsh Tudor dynasty.

So the flag of St George, being the flag of both England and Wales along with that of St. Andrews golf club (because Henry loved golf, or Goff as it was known)
Later 1801 iirc they included Ireland's St. Patrick flag because they could.

We are not Mensch, We are Devo?
New Brighton is not a patch on the old one. Big, brassy and gay as they come and you call that a pier Mr. Parker?
I'm sure Mr Chapman has the best of intentions, if the best he can do is strut around like a peacock and display an intellect of something less pretty.
I just can't see what people see in Christchurch, it just seems so, so... so?...

  • Hard News: Standing up and calling bullshit,

Until last year my son had weekly yoga at his (Catholic) primary school. As far as I know it had all spiritual overtones stripped from it completely...

    Ah yes, Pointless Pilates.
I remember him from the Bibble.

If a European youth was found vandalising property: "We'd probably say `Hey, what are you doing? That's not really the white way'."

    Budding property developer maybe?
I suppose it's all white if the vandalising makes a profit.
