I don't know exactly what to believe simon g. And nor can anybody else I reckon because of the very nature of the topic. For every claim, there is invariably a denial. Those with supposed specialist knowledge often disagree.
What I don't like is the entirely self-serving presentation from the likes of Harre and Kim the Kraut. -

I agree with the American expert on Hoskings this morning whose name escapes me who said even if Snowdens claims are largely true, "I'm pretty certain that innocent people had or have nothing to worry about."
Now I suspect you'll tell me that Hoskings is biased and his show is tainted. Than again, why shouldn't I expect the anti-Key conspiracy theorists not to give it their frantic all just days out from an election? -

I get the feeling I should take your abuse as high praise Steve. I can't recall writing something that has evoked more clearly that truism... "the truth hurts." I know you expected Key to take a mortal blow but he didn't did he Steve?. But the German crook did.

Of course it was a win to Key Ken. Maybe a significant contribution to an election-winning difference. And that was as predictable as forecasting indifferent weather in a New Zealand spring. If for no other reason than a major chunk of the population has developed an acute bout of Obese German Fraudster fatigue.
The thing that gets me the most is the extent to which New Zealand Inc. has fallen for this convicted bullshitter.
Giving him airtime like last night says just as much about our naivety as it does the fat man's vengeance-driven drivel.
Sure, the topic needs examining but do we really need to fall for that zealot Harre and a criminal over-stayer to use it purely as scaremongering, electioneering?
Thankfully, they didn't come anywhere near succeeding in that quest.
I look forward to watching your take tonight Russell where I imagine the substance of the debate won't be accompanied by such appalling theatrics.. -

A handful of recent contributors bemoan the supposedly unfair amount of attention that Key receives from questioners. Specific suspicions such as patsy questions and a lack of hard follow-up questions etc all would have me believe Key is given a very soft ride.
I suspect the potential veracity of these accusations is sadly sullied by the fact that John Key simply makes far more enticing readership appeal than Cunliffe. In short, Key has x-factor in spades and Cunliffe has none or very close to it. I realise I've strayed in territory where I can expect volleys from every direction questioning the fairness of it all and further evidence of what a corrupted media. But the bottom-line is that exposure given to Key attracts more interest than that given to Cunliffe. Unfair I accept, Irresponsible even? Maybe. But themselves the breaks. When I write about Sonny Bill Williams, I can be certain I will receive at least double the replies as to an article on Richie McCaw. And believe, it's nigh on impossible to ignore SBW just because it isn't fair. -

I have to give you the familiar "I couldn't agree more" retort Russell. But I couldn't.

Your counsel of perfection needs challenging somewhat Izogi. To postulate that a government must govern in the interests of all is based on a flawed perception. First and foremost, any government's primary responsibility is execute the promises it put forth and was elected upon.
To try and also placate the wishes of those who were opposed to these promises is nigh on impossible.
For example, If Key is re-elected and honours his pledge of no capital gains tax, he can't govern for all in that respect.
Stating the obvious I know but this "governing for all" concept just ain't possible in so many aspects. -

So can we assume you are rich CJM but not a prick?

Yes Rob. I agree that Key may well hand over the reins mid or latish-term and Paula Bennett is the benefactor.
I for one wouldn't blame the man to ride off into the sunset, in his case, a beautiful Hawaiian one where he can sip martinis on his deck, mull over a job well done and ring his mate Barrack to see if he's up for nine holes, maybe even eighteen.
