  • Hard News: A Stand for Quaxing,

Also - while we're geeking out over quaxer parking - I took this shot outside the whole foods market in Portland. Because while on holiday I spent a portion of my time taking photos of stationery bicycles chained to metal tubes. This parking was full or fuller all the time, even after midnight when I took the picture.
Perhaps Countdown needs to see this in action in a different country. Imagine not saving all that ground for more resting cars, but instead having more shop, with more stuff, for more buying?

"But they were receptive when I told them I’d get them the information about requesting a publicly-funded stand, and I didn’t get around to it. So that’s on me."

Yes, I'm trying to broker one for Matt at (GD) via Kathryn (AT), at a popular establishment in Ponsonby you're familiar with. He has been crying out for a permanent stand for the bikes that crowd the two lampposts outside. If only they'd been able to leave the loaners there from the Greater Auckland launch (below). Admittedly I haven't been giving Kathryn the reminders that I should have been so that is also on me.

This is also an extremely opportune time to perhaps remove a parking space and put in a row of bike parks... I know Kathryn had some beautiful concept ideas for bike parking and it would be great to see one there.

  • Hard News: The Sky Trench, in reply to Patrick Reynolds,

Hear hear Patrick, I couldn't believe what I was reading. What happened to the public consultation survey we all filled out asking if we wanted the path in technicolor or city street grey? I don't recall a question on 'whopping great unnecessary and massively ugly cage'. Commenting from Portland, the city of bridges, where people just ride bikes on any of them and enjoy great views. I actually stopped and took a few pics, was wonderful.

  • Up Front: Well, Read Women,

I like the way the first page totally sidelines the topic and goes straight for the meaning of close but no cigar. Good to reconfirm that the audience are a bunch of smarty-pantses.

And now for me to sideline the actual column topic. How about people not whining 'why won't she go out with me?', 'why won't he go out with me', and perhaps focus on how you can be someone that another person would want to go out with. Get a hobby, learn a useful skill, contribute to society, create something ..or yes, read a book. This is useful for whichever gender you identify with.

And finally on topic, trick people - suggest George Eliott. A good dose of Middlemarch sounds like it would work on multiple levels.

I've found it interesting that I have never judged book by the gender of the author, and that people actually do this?? Bill Bryson, is a great writer because he is good at writing things, as is Mary Roach.

  • Speaker: Living under bridges, in reply to Jolisa,

    Fantastic post Jolisa!

Also I want to add to the general stream of comments, who is going to drive to the bridge to walk across it? If you are taking your car there, why don't you just drive across it and continue on your journey. The car part of the bridge will still be open for business as usual.

  • Hard News: Nelson Street: Not too…, in reply to Roger Lacey,

I know this isn't facebook, but can I just 'like' that comment? Play, FF and pause painted logos are a fantastic idea. Fast and cheap installation, easy to understand symbols.

Clictivism? Passive activism by liking things on facebook. Admittedly I haven't heard this overused yet.
