I see the Victorian* cab monopoly is fighting back. With limited success.

(Cab licenses in Melbourne go for several hundred thousand - not surprisingly, getting a cab is near impossible).

    * Place not era. Although in the case of cabs, place *and* era.

That type of thing would be a crime, except that the governments of John Key and others (I'd include in this the Clark government, whose ministers no doubt fell asleep when the topic of business regulation came up - see also finance companies) have made sure that the laws against white collar fraud are almost unenforceable.

About the same as the percentage of lactose (a sugar) in human breast milk (once water is excluded).

Quite a good idea really - people wouldn't make a fake Uber app that instead erases the phone, destroying any evidence the cops might have been looking for in the first place.

This could be a possible solution to Auckland's housing problems:
an airline that lets you fly as much as you want for a flat fee.

One could even see the Uber business model being included - pilots with 100 hrs on Microsoft Flight Simulator and a few touch and goes in a Cessna could ferry passengers using modified cropdusters or ARJ-21s. None of that commercial license or airworthiness red tape!

People would fabricate soft drinks in clandestine coke labs.

    Then they would ban sugar.

People would extract sugar from vegetable and other food items in clandestine sugar labs.

Then they would ban carbohydrate containing foods.

Then we would all die because the human body requires carbohydrates as metabolic fuel.

New Zealand *is* a tax haven – Key doesn’t need to use foreign ones.

I think I posted this elsewhere, but if the PM's wealth, as reported, is NZD50mln, then if we assume he keeps 80% in tax-free capital items (beach houses in Omaha, vineyards, etc) that that’s all tax free. If he then makes 5% on the remaining $5mln, that’s $250k, the tax on which would be about $80k – way less than his salary, and a cheap price to get to play golf with Obama.

Until the '70s and the building of ski resorts, Queenstown was a village of 1,000 or so people. Tourism is it's industry and reason to exist.

I wonder if they've considered introducing another specialised service for those of us who miss the 160kph+ antics of European taxi drivers. UberFast (TM) would require drivers to provide a suitably hopped up vehicle (Subaru WRX, BMW M3, that sort of thing) and treat any speed limits as a minimum guideline. Doughnuts would be performed on passenger demand.

Ok, this would also be illegal, but yeah, whatever...
