@Petra:
In chasing ratings and the advertising dollar they have bought into, and nurtured, the culture of hate. Hate is the new black, it seems. Bigotry, the hot new fashion accessory. Wear it anywhere. "Express Yourself" :(
Those Facebook comments on Paul Henry's support page sounded startlingly like the "Leb and wog bashing day" during the Cronulla Beach riots. And it seems not much distinction is being made between Hindus, Sikhs or Muslims.

Their whole sense of identity is tied up in victimhood.
And then the pot said to the kettle, "Hello!"
Their sense of victimhood is more akin to old boys' network entitlement.

And just for fun, Russell: you've been Kiwibuggered! (h/t Danyl)
If the KCC (Kiwiblog Commenters' Club) weren't so deadly serious they'd be clowns. Blaming the opposing team for an own goal, eh?
'Guy Smiley' on DimPost summed it up neatly:
To be fair to the guy making the useful suggestion about Russell Brown also picked McCain to beat Obama a day or so out from the election, so he’s not exactly what you’d call astute, or a full time resident on our planet.

What happens next is going to depend quite a lot on central government, but I don't think government can afford to ignore the wishes of the people entirely. Steven Joyce will be taking account of the vote, I'm sure.
So in other words, doing the Greater London Council thing would do the Govt no favours? Then again, Len Brown doesn't seem to come across as the bolshie 'Red Ken' Livingstone type.

Stop Press: Big client reviews its TVNZ advertising after Henry slur
If only there was some way we could round up these racist scum and put them on a special train to a re-education gulag on Stewart Island or somewhere else unpleasant and remote.
I've never liked Social Darwinism or reality/snuff TV, but in this case, I'll make an exception.
And here's the pitch:
The Henryites and the Iti-sheviks are put on a one-way flight to somewhere remote like the former Woomera detainment camp. A parachute drop of Colt M4A1's, live ammo and supplies is flown over the area. The rest is self explanatory.

I think a lot of PH's comments and the support for him is based on fear that the world is changing and they don't know how to cope. I see parallels with those who want to keep sheltered workshops, and it fits in with PH's earlier comments about Susan Boyle. They don't want to be forced to admit that other groups of people, apart from themselves, are fully human, and have equal rights to participate in the world.
Too true. Seeing their suburban empires crumbling around them, they'll have a tendency to resort to half-baked Elders of Zion/Elders of Mecca/Red Domino theories.
There's really nothing for them to worry about. All they need is a Sunshine Coast real estate booklet.

Timely, since my main toon just looted this last night.

NZ research shows a job application by someone with a name like Anand Satyanand is much less likely to result in a job interview than an identical one by someone called John Smith or similar. That's without clapping eyes on the person or hearing their voice.
Consider the damage that does to all of us as a nation. About one in three Aucklanders were born overseas (compared with about one in six over the whole country, I think - can't find the number to link to). At the recent TEDxAuckland innovation event, a show of hands revealed that *two* thirds of the attendees were born overseas. Join the dots.
And there's been a dark and long-running gag in Toronto that it has the world's highest-qualified taxi drivers.
