yes – the only violence in an anti-Vietnamn war protest in NZ that I know of involved tearing down the fence around that base (this was an age when NZ airports didn’t even bother to have fences)

what's really sad is that some of what's happening in Iraq/Syria is as a result of the same upper-class-british-twitt behaviour during and after WW1 that also brought us Gallipoli

Better to let the people who created these messes clean up after themselves, I;d ratehr we just continue to show up and be peace keepers rather than continuing the meddling

  • Legal Beagle: A rather incomplete…, in reply to NSA,

Tangentially stuff.co.nz was hacked last night,

The Indedendent was showing that an hour ago – maybe they got to some common hosting resource, or maybe the underlying caching infrastructure

EDIT: seems still to be broken

How does one even make a submission? thank's to National's cutbacks mail service from here Dunedin now spends a day in Christchurch before going anywhere

(yes I know one can probably doi it on line, but there's a whole generation or two still around for who that is largely still a foreign country)

Labour screws up again, conspiring to kill Slater when everybody can tell at a glance he is one of the undead.

Oh great, zombie vampire Slater will be shuffling though our lives for generations to come, can Labour get nothing right? time to retrive that wooden stake from Muldoon and put it to good use

I doubt if payments are the problem. Ironically it is more likely a “Privacy” consideration.

no but if we have to build a new transpacific cable simply because every fibre being used on the current one needs a companion fibre owned by the NSA/GCSB passing its contents back to big brother's panopticon then it does affect us - especially if our internet traffic is limited because the NSA denies US landing rights to competing cables simply because the routing equipment will be provided by someone they have no control of

New Snowden docs: GCHQ’s ties to telco gave spies global surveillance reach
Access through “partners” such as Cable & Wireless pulls in gigabits globally.
GCSB may not be mentioned in this article but then most Merkins don’t even know we exist, just the ones with the power to “Rule Them All"…

however the article does confirm that the cables we use into the US are in fact tapped

(it makes more sense to tap them at the US end - saves them having to pay for bandwidth to send all that data back to the US)

EDIT: it's particularly scary that it's Vodaphone that's providing the taps to the spooks, maybe I need another cell provider
