So what can it mean when it goes undetected or unresponded to by the fourth estate?
Silvio Berlusconi, anyone?

I'm not sure of my class these days - one-off oddball seems to fit - but I just dont have any empathy whatsoever with the sort of people who reguard themselves as being way superior to - and uncaring of- any worker.
In the words of Warren Buffett, not one to keep up with the Joneses:
"There’s class warfare, all right,” Mr. Buffett said, “but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning."

sadly, it looks like we are stuck with the descent society for now, and with the current castrati in power best we can hope for is a descant society...
"We would love to see wages drop."
"Don't be jealous."
Best viewed on a giant telescreen.

Seriously, we're nearly two years into National's term and Labour just a couple of months ago was still getting slammed for things it did while it was in govt. It's media management has been pretty bad for quite some time now.
The departure of Mike Munro and Mark Watts I suspect had a lot to do with it.
And the current lot in power continue to polish turds and put lipstick on pigs - and make it look possible.
The less it becomes about sweeping ideologies, and the more about specific goals and failures of National, the better their chances. This is how they were ousted themselves.
As the saying goes, oppositions don't win elections, governments lose them. But oppositions can set political boobytraps.

A state of poverty and not-poverty, as it were. Cutting taxes for the rich, while entrenching this state of affairs for the 75% is to make lives harder and more painful.
And left long enough, angry, violent, and even revolutionist.

What the hell kind of libertarian asshole hates the Fire Department? Oh. Answered my own question there.
Whoever he is, he'd rather push A Holden than drive a Ford.

I hail from an "upper-middle class" Karori background, and somehow I went down the path of the intellectual rogue. My father had wanted me to be a bean-counter like him, but to put it mildly it was more interesting to watch paint dry.
I don't keep up with the Joneses by choice - and when I do spend money, I prefer to pay for experiences rather than stuff. Warcraft seems to be an ideal example. ;)
As for fashion, for me black is the new black, fancy label or not.
It seems while sophistication has democratised somewhat, so too has its polar opposite, yobbishness. Class these days isn't just about income - Mockneys and Chavs in Britain come to mind.

Melissa Lee was parachuted into that electorate over the loud objections of the local Nats.
"I can see South Auckland from my house!"

Simple, we have to instil feelings of guilt in those that possess more than their share, those that benefit from the suffering of others, those that turn a blind eye to the fact that every dollar that you sort away for your future removes it from the future of the helpless.
It's all in the marketing. How about tent cities at Parliament?

And of course our slackarse media breathlessly relayed that utter crap without a second thought, even while telling us that those on benefits for 10 years or more amount to no more than 0.3%. That's a long way from 100% even for the junior illiterates who seem to infest our newsrooms. Total fail, and not "valid" at all.
The Press Fucking Council.
