  • Hard News: What about that Welfare…,

Typical New Right soundbytery. I'd like to see them get this off the ground with tactical voting likely in Epsom to surgically excise the carcinoma of ACT from the body politic next year, Despite Tariana's openness to the concept, I think there'll be some problems within the Maori Party if National pushes ahead with this stealth, incrementalist erosion of social citizenship en route to the sort of dysfunctional welfare privatisation that exists in the United States,,,,

How much did this little piece of conservative ideological purity cost the rest of us, BTW?

Er, Emma? The Greens don't have a policy on supporting same-sex marriage proper. Right to Life NZ got clobbered by some regulatory authority for circulating a dodgy questionnaire that implied they did (I think it was Elections NZ, though). Also, note the current Redmer Yska book about Truth (which I intend to buy tomorrow), That tragic tabloid has gotten donged by the Press Council over its inaccuracies and gaffes, and sued for defamation and lost several times. And don't forget former Fairfax sock con columnist Bruce Logan, his daughter Alexis Stewart and that nasty brouhaha about copyright...

  • Hard News: New Old Left?,

Why on earth was Henry even allowed on a mainstream television network when he belongs to the augean stable market segment of squawkback radio? It certainly wasn't intended to attract mainstream educated liberal viewers to TVNZ. Given the high segmentation of the broadcast radio market, TVNZ really should have known better. One hopes that he has to emigrate across the ditch and makes a new start in Qld, where his sort of views are considered acceptable.

  • Hard News: New Old Left?,

Okay, here's my take on the likelihood of a neo-Alliance party. Clearly, there was a political space to the left of Labour during the nineties, but whether it's still unoccupied there today is a moot point. Added to which, while Matt McCarten is a damned good union organiser, he doesn't seem to be all that good a political strategist. The Greens are a reliable and left centre-left political party and it would be an unthinkable tragedy if this hypothetical entity ended up shaving necessary points off their total party vote. I can't see why Matt doesn't join the Greens and replaces Sue Bradford as the social justice heavyhitter there.

  • Hard News: Unreasonable people vote,

Loudon is apparently a Tea Party groupie and mates with fellow Auckland conspiracy theorist Barbara Faithfull. Is he still an ACT Party member?

  • Hard News: Morning in Auckland,

I despise Paul Henry. Why doesn't TVNZ realise that he's out of touch with mainstream New Zealand standards of civility and good taste, and sack him outright? As for 'the audience,' I suggest that TVNZ's Chief Executive take a good hard look at what's going on here, before things escalate to a consumer boycott.

I'm sorry, there must be a typo there.

Did Garrett really mean "Dark Farces" surround ACT at the moment? It'd be more appropriate if that were the case...
