I'm not quite sure why Rodney could not have just added a little tag to his jacket with "authorized by blah...".
The objections I've seen here to the EFA seem to be addressable by:
- people would rather have a phone number/email address/PO box instead of a street address.
- clothes (not worn for consideration) should be exempted
- personal websites should be exempted, even if they aren't blogs
- there could be a de-mnimus rule where the breach of the act is considered to be immaterial in persuading any voters
- the Electoral Commission could offer rulings that would protect anyone from subsequent prosecutionIf that's all people want, then it hardly seems to be the corrupt and chilling attack on freedom of expression that our new government press claims.
Or is the real agenda for ultra-wealthy people to be able to spend as much money as they like to try and get their preferred party elected?

Simon:
- if your website takes the form of a blog, then you need no attribution or anything else.- NZ is not the kind of place where people break each others windows for their political ideas
- You can't say "Vote National". You can say "Vote for a change for the worse" or "don't vote Labour"
- You can spend up to $1000 without attribution or anything else

I think the classic way of delivering a fixed term parliament is to have a "constructive motion of no confidence" where another party is named and takes over.
This still creates a problem if a government loses its majority and cannot get supply passed, but also can't resign.
One other option would be for supply to be passed for three years at the beginning of a term.
(There is also the case when a government genuinely wants a new mandate, like Heath in the 1973 miners strike. )

The EFA didn't stop Both Eyes Open from running a vigorous third party campaign up and down the country. For just over $3k.
Basically, what the Nats will try and do is to return to unlimited, unattributed spending by the wealthy. I suspect they'll probably repeal the EFA, have a Royal Commission on what to replace it with, and kick the results of that into the long grass if they don't fit.

Looking at the minor parties, it's interesting that RAM got 79,000 votes in the ARC elections and only 405 in the general election. I guess people are very wary of wasting their vote nowadays.
Though I have seen people give passionate defences of why they vote Alliance, for instance?

Wellington Zoo survived the unfortunate biosecurity incident documented in Braindead - now Roger's going to finally f**k it up. Bloody zombies!

written before the result is known
So the Herald computer is full of archived celebratory reporting of the last few world cup finals?

why wasn't [GST reduction] not adopted also by the Greens
Because it would be one of the less effective ways of helping poorer people, compared with increased WFF, reduced lower rates of income tax, or increased benefits.
Green policies are reality-based, not kneejerk reactions.

There was a (very bad) TV miniseries called World War III which deals with the runup to world war and attempts to resolve the crisis. You assume throughout that they will resolve it and the world will be saved. It isn't.
